Spoolin = running great with minimal problems with 203 whp
WShade = BEGI kit running with minimal Problems at 6 psi
Ambient = CHDesign Kit runs but stress cracks to the flywheel selling kit
Incimal = FIC T3/T4 prototype kit resulted in a blow motor due to 10 psi of boost so there is your limit people
Big_Ben = spoolin kit blow rings lost compression selling kit
 
When did incimal blow his engine? Did he post on here about it? If so can you point me in the right direction.

ok, so...what's happening to be blowing rings, and cracking flywheels? i'm still new to f/i, but i want to know, how come some run fine, some do not?

I thought Big_Ben said his problems were unrelated to the spoolin kit...or not to blame on the turbo setup?

I thought spoolin' had his boost turned up past 10 once...

Spoolin has gone to 12 psi i believe but on race gas. Stous system is working well as far as I know. Incimal did not post on here he told me on AOL. He was racing a 1.8T GTI he beat him but at the expenise of his car. As far as Big-Ben he has lost compression showing that the turbo has done direct harm to his motor. I'm not sure if Ambients cracked flywheel was from the turbo i just know that he is taking it off. SO far it seems 50/50 as to the turbo and sucess. THe FM P5 is the same turbo kit WShade has on his car so they should be getting around the same numbers. Spoolin is the highest power puller on teh board I believe as of now. I personally am staying away from forced induction now on the protege but I will offer as much info as i can on here from my past experience with my own kit on my protege. All-Motor High Compression is for me I like it better but hey everyone has their thing.
 
The problems with my turbo was partly my fault and mostly just an accident. The oil leak I had got 100 times worse on the way to work one morning and the oil heated up and the car just started smoking. The turbo had enough oil going to it that there was no damage to it, but there was damage to my car. I'm just going to let it smoke like a hoopty until we buy our house in the next month and then decide what to do with it. It's not that much of a big deal, but it will cause more damage over time(like 6 months). It had nothing to do with Spoolins kit though. Just a fluke.:( I'll be back though. If I decide to keep the car, I'll fix it, then turbo it again in a year or so. I may sell it though because it isn't even a year old yet and it already has over 20000 miles. I might have to go upside down on it.:(
 
Yes Craig,

Stou = Runing great (a bit rich) 8 psi 190whp no detonation.

I think the power difference between Spoolin and me is because of the Link. With the Link, he can fine tune his car more than me with only the SDS controller.

That's why I will look for a piggy back system in the next few month. Right now, I don't realy have the time to work on that and the car is runing great!

Sorry for Incimal but... now that I know that, I will stay at 8psi.
 
If memory serves correctly. Incimal was running his turbo kit with no increase in fuel. That's probably the main reason why his motor was blown.
 
Here's another little summary:

8psi is cool FMU, some run stock fuel (I wouldn't)
10psi is ok with fuel man. and maybe a pump, but people start throwing rods. If I wanted to go past 10, I would get forged rods and pistons with lower compression. Add bigger or aux. injectors (with proper management) and I'm thinkin we could go to 12, hey maybe even 13-14...

This is just what I've seen but I won't know until I throw a rod myself :)
 
I have gone as high as 12 pounds and overboosted to like 15psi by accident a few times with no harm. Inemical perhaps blew his motor because lack of fuel and intecooler at a high boost levels.

I ran 12psi on c16 once with minimal tuning and got 237whp with some fine tuning I have faith I could have pulled 250-260 to the wheels. But without motor mounts and a LSD that power is absolutlty useless

Nothing against Incimal or anything, but 10psi with NO IC and NO extra gas is SUPER dumb. Personally, I wouldn't dare run more than 6psi w/o more fuel AND an IC.
 
Is Ambient's flywheel stock or what? Will a fidanza hold more power than a stock one?
