turbo placement

Just a question for anyone that either done this or going to, can anyone tell me if i can put a turbo for my 2001 protege DX. Im just curious, I see they have a turbo kit out, but dont know if I have to upgrade engine or anything like that. Also just out of curious thought, what is the best engine that can fit on my protege right now?

If you have the 2.0 liter engine (FS-DE), then you are in luck! I think all proteges after 2001 are the 2.0 liter engines. The only issue you may run into is with the fitment of the intercooler behind your frong bumper, but is easily fixed.

I have a 1.6L. But do I have to do a engine swap or can i modify the engine I have?

If its a 2001 I think the Flyin miata kit will fit. Call them!

I think your engine is the BP engine the difference is the way the exhaust manifold sits. Most kits I think are made based on the FS engine.

dunno if it will fit on a 1.6...but give it a shot!
might need a different manifold, I'd guess.

there are no kits availablefor the 1.6L sorry man and it is not a BP based motor it is some other designation. I hate to say it but you best best woudl be to visit the Protegeclub.com boards and talk to a guys on there called biknman he is the only person I know of with a 1.6L turbo.

Isn't the turboge a 1.6L? You might want to contact barelylegaltransplants and see if that is the case.

Brandens turbo was a 1st gen with a BPT swap not a 1.6L with a turbo kit.

how part compatible are the B6 and zm engine?
