2001 Mazda Protege LX 2.0
Well I picked up a 2001 Protege with an FS-DE, and was wondering if a turbo will be needed to hit 190-200 hp at the wheels. I want it to be a road course, everyday driver sort of thing. Ant suggestions for mods?

Yes, a turbo would be needed to get that amount of Hp.
A full catback with a Sri would give you at the most 5 to 10hp. Where compared to a turbo, you could go up to 200hp. You would need the full turbo setup from a MSP, a FMIC would be a good choice, probably grab a LSD tranny while you're at it. And probably a few other goodies to be a trustworthy daily driven car.

ill look into those. btw, i noticed on your build i noticed that you have 4 wheel rotors. did you find a kit or did you custom fabricate it? they look killer

You mean front and rear disks? Most protgs came from factory with them.

And as stated you will need to turbo it to get that kind of power. But you don't have to use the msp setup you can piece your own together. But LSD is highly recommended, 200 whp sucks with an open diff ( ask me how I know).

Seeing that you're from California do you have a plan to get by emissions?

Ill look into a turbocharger then. I'm new to this turbo thing lol so ill look into California state law. Could I keep my automatic transmission or swap it out?

You can't even modify a car in California unless it ha the carb certification

What you can do is do an entire oem msp setup but it will be a bit expensive and will then have to be certified. I remember one person talking about it

Btw stock numbers. An auto will make 60-70 whp while manuals will make right around 100 whp

yeah that's what sucks about California :/. thanks for the info on the transmission though, i havnt thought about that. well huh im kinda stuck, cause it seems to be a pain to turbo in this state.

ill look into it and go from there. id rather use this car than have to buy another
