Turbo noise....

So, due to white smoke coming out the exhaust from time to time, I put her in the garage.

Long story shot, new gaskets, o2 sensor, and new turbo.

So I get in to drive it for the first time, car feels sluggish. Windows didn't work, radio all muffed up. Obviously battery was disconnected. I got the windows and everything re-programmed......but, my turbo is making a noise.

Basically, it sounds like a .... turbo. I know that sounds really dumb. But, it's whistling like a turbo would. I never EVER heard the turbo in my MS6 before. I heard a rush of air at times, but no whistle or whine noise. Starts at ~3000rpm and stops at around 5500. I can hear it even with the windows up.

Car is sluggish, but computer was reset, and has new turbo. I'll give the turbo time to break in I guess and go from there on the power issue.

But, what is different about my car now is the bigger question. Why do I hear the turbo so clearly all of a sudden?

stupied question, but ur puttin in 93 gas right? ya i would give it at least 500-1000 miles before trying to push the turbo hard.

did u get it reflashed? maybe you should just drive it a bit and see how it goes. if it still the same i say bring it back to dealer.

they may have reflashed it yes. But I got my doubts that would make the turbo louder.

I have informed the dealer. The sound is pretty cool, reminds me of my old Mazdaspeed protege sorta

If it is sluggish AND you can hear the turbo more, I would have them check that all your clamps were connected properly. It sounds almost as though you have a boost leak. Since the system is typically closed, the only way to make the sounds trapped within the system louder, is to open up the system by way of larger intake, larger exhaust, or leak.

A boost leak would explain both your issues with a single problem. Since they replaced your turbo, it is quite possible that they didn't reconnect a clamp tightly. I have had this happen before several times on my MSP. I would then have to take off the bumper to check every frickin' clamp on the cold and hot side to find the one damn clamp that was loose. As soon as I tightened that baby down, the good ol' MSP would be back.

well, you guys were right. clamp on hose = boost leak. Car was super sluggish. Now she's back, new turbo too, and holy crap what a difference! Zoom zoom is back

Glad to hear that your baby is back and glad to know that I learned something after all those hours of reading Corky Bell's book and taking apart my MSP.
