Turbo Lag, Just how long it is

slurbo

Must be different there in CA here on the East Coast the TWO I test drove did not shift like that.Yours Hit 3000 up to 3500 before the shift light changes from 1st to 2nd(even though that light is not exact it even has a lag). The second one I drove was a 08 and still did not tach out that way both were shift to 2nd at around 2000 to 2500 rpm, that of course fixed now after 5 visits to stealer ship and calls to MAZDA many times. just like bond007 threads.

You just need to know how to make the tranny shift when you want it to, I modulate the pedal just a certain way to get it to shift the way I want it to in D.

This is a family vehicle not a sports car, cant see owners explaining this to there wife to modulate your foot ,there again this lag is or was a problem only when pulling out into traffic the lag is unsafe and could get someones wife or kids hurt due to not getting the proper TSB's done. Was this video done from a normal take-off or did you try do show a demo of an example of how it respondes if you had to press the gas pedal quickly like a split second of a life or death situation, because under normal take-off its a normal drive.Show video if you can please. Thanks my is fixed thanks to a lott of hell I went through.

When you floor the CX-7, you will get the Drive by Wire to lag. It will think of how much throttle to output, So flooring from a complete stop is not recommended. I had the pedal depressed to about 50,60 percent. But I have to ask why are you pulling out into traffic like that? Although I have done it without any problems. I can post another video later tonight.

The problem we were having is that it was shifting into 2nd before a safe RPM level was meet therefore causing the truck to almost stall, unfortunatly I cannot explain the feeiling, obviously people donot pull out into traffic on purpose with beening aware of the repercusions. With that being said I am sure you have pulled out in front of someone and relized oh s***......Thats what happenned to us and BOND007TAZ,MAZDA has fixed this it was trully the transmission TSB per MAZDA tech.(everybody has pulled out in front of someone).

But I have to ask why are you pulling out into traffic like that?

Exactly, I've been saying this all along! My wife has never ever told me of a problem with lag and I've never had one myself. Perhaps my logic is obscurred because I run a fleet of Isuzu NPR's and International 4300's with turbo diesel engines. But then, what's my wife's? You want to talk about turbo lag? Pull out into traffic in a 24' box truck that does 0-60 in 40 seconds. It just doesn't make sense to me. Drive any automatic turbo vehicle in and around the price range of ours. 4 times out of 5 you'll get turbo lag. Anyone remember the '90 Ford Probe auto? The first and second generation DSM cars in auto? The first gen. Impreza WRX auto? The only blown cars I can think of that don't have any kind of lag are supercharged or very expensive, modern tech. turbos like Audi, BMW, etc.

Mine shifts just like CX-7's=LOVE's does. The part about the DBW slowing things down is accurate as well. My TSX doesn't respond that well to quick inputs to the throttle and its because of DBW. I am no fan of DBW and think it is actually more of a culprit than turbo lag.

nice video! The RPM between 1000 and 2000 on mine was very slow compared to yours. Your is so smooth (shady). I wish I could have created a video of mine but since everyone said it was normal I figured I was being too picky. If your video is what is supposed to happen then mine had a real problem, even after the TSB updates. So did the others on the dealers lot. The end result is that the mazda rep told me it was normal and that he would not recommend to mazda that anything needed to be done. I did drive another CX7 (different dealer) with a 4/06 build that supposedly had the updates and that was lagged too between 0 and 15mph. If I had something that accelerated as smooth as yours then I would still have the CX7.

I traded it in for another vehicle. I figured it was my fault for not noticing the lag when I test drove it and then purchased it.

oh? What did you get? Sorry to hear about your problems with Mazda, and the dealers, we would have loved to have you on the board!

Ha, you people have no idea what LAG really is.

mine does not shift like that I starting to think I really need to get in for the updates I just assumed that since we just bought they updates would of been applied? Is there in way to confirm all the flashed have been done? or just take it in?
