Turbo install this weekend

Yea, really Josh. Now I'm twice as nervous, and I really can't turn back now. *sigh*

i think it was tony who told me you can't be boostin in 5th gear...and who know's what the afr was....? you build it right, tune it right and drive it right, you'll be fine...!

Yea, so how do you stay out of boost in 5th? Just stay below a certain speed and RPM?

Oh, and he called you about the PCM, right after I had the bright Idea to just follow the harness..and found it rather quickly as you probably would assume...i got a nasty cut on that metal sheild it bolts to though.

ya, that is the sharpest piece of metal...i think they do that on purpose so you don't mess with the ECU..hahaha!
Ya, and who puts a bolt through the wiring harnass?? Lmao, I've never seen that before!

no offense, he kinda deserved it. 11psi in 5th at wot? he mine as well have just dropped a grenade in the tb. i think the 5th has an overdrive but basically theres a shitload of load on the engine at that point. if u even just tap the gas u can get 3 psi in 5th.

its well known on here at least, u DO NOT boost in 5th, especially full load and 11 psi.

you can boost like 1 psi for a sec cause its hard not to but, just dont gun it goin into 5th, use like 30-40% pedal and a light touch and its not hard at all to stay out of boost.

they put an extra bolt in the ecu, kinda like overkill..but wheres the rods for our turbo engine? oh yea, no overkill there. heh.

Whew! Ok, so I can do 75-80 on the highway and shouldn't worry about hitting boost. Will cruise control affect that either positively or negatively?

will be fine , when ur cruising you wont be making boost, u have to add load (ie gas pedal) to get it into boost.

p.s. i hate the stock intercooler and pipes hahaha.

So basically, as long as I'm light on my feet, I should be fine. lol.

EDIT: You make out ok last night?

yea, youll get used to it. its really easy to stay out of boost altogether if u get used to it. i can keep it under 1 psi in all gears no problem. car is slow as s*** but u get the idea. dont boost low either., in higher gears like dont boost below 3000 (1st and 2nd gear are an exception), it puts alot of strain on the car. and if u have ac on try not to boost either.

yea all is well. my money actually came through instead of fri so im ordering alot of s*** today. p.s. dont tell anyone what im doin. :)

I have done a full swap, lemme know if you need some help. Everything is just like an msp for the most part minus the ecu.

OH yea, it was a huge pain in the ass :)

Sorry to keep bothering you about this setup and what not. Thanks for posting those pages with the part numbers and such. Just out of curiousity, do I need everything within those five pages except the body stuff just for the turbo setup? Do you have a better list of everything needed that is more specific? If not, do you know where I can find a specific list? I am going to do some searching but I thought I would ask first. Thanks!

That is everything you need. The only thing not listed on there is the oil cooler.

Hah, no problem, and yea, that shield still hurts like a b****...superglue helps out alot though =D
Oh, and as i promised, the wonderful 4x4 pic of my car right after i painted my wheels the first time
IMG_0235.jpg

yea, we were discussing how my car is already lowered, and it still looks high...but no one knew what it was like stock.....I really think mine was built with off road use only intentions

Oh, and PS...those wheels were originally silver. Looking back...I dont know how I drove the car that high with that wheel still being silver...thankfully i dont have any good pictures to remind me of what was

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I do have a lot of good help around me, so I think I'll be ok. BTW, Tony, I checked the turbo parts list again, and it says right on there the banjo bolt is 14mm x 1.5mm, DOH!

So I went to Mazda this morning, and the "gentleman" at the counter told me he couldn't lookup the part #'s I need w/o the vin #. So, I called my girl Shalon down in maryland and she hooked me up with the part #'s w/o my vin. Imagine that, the service guy was just being lazy... I marched back in there part #'s in hand, put the neanderthal in his place and proceeded to purchase my parts. I also ordered the banjo fitting and bolt, and check valve from Shalon. Those parts should be here tomorrow. Plan of attack for tonight:
Finish removing old gasket from intake mani
Finish prying off the oil pan
Retap exhaust mani stud hole
Mount Intercooler
Put silicon hose around opening for IC piping
Install new coolant bracket
Cut plastic in the wheel wells to fit IC piping
Install exhaust mani/turbo/downpipe - possible
finish installing the boost gauge and turbo timer - possible
I plan on running the water and oil feed lines for the turbo before putting the intake mani back on, so it's nice and easy. Since I'm waiting on the banjo fitting for the water line, I hope to get the intake mani on tomorrow night provided the parts come in, then I can start mounting the ic piping. Also, since I'm not running the oil return through the crank girdle and am using the oil pan instead, I have to get a nipple of sorts to put in the end of the return line, then find a hose to run from what will prob be a 4an nipple to the 8an oil pan tap. Home Depot or Lowes should have the oil nipples and fittings, no?

great news justin!! hey, on the pan...i just used a putty knife and worke my way around the pan and it finally gave in and came off, no worries, you really can't hurt anything...plus you'll be scraping it down nice and clean with a dremel befor you reinstali it. oh, and use a good amount of sealant...i was to frugal and my pan leaked!
