What are your other mods? Did you install anything else with it? What was the temp outside? Were you sure to hook up the wastegate solenoid line? Could be getting fuel cut...
Or knock, if you feel hesitation...
The biggest problems with the inlets is a loose clamp that attaches to the turbo or the one at the curve.
Check that. If you got a DH, make sure you're not getting high LTFT's. That's usually an indication of a leak.
If you hit fuel cut you know it. It bucks pretty hard.
What brand CAI do you have??
Check your hose clamps. When I installed my first one I left a few a little lose and it ral a lot like what you are saying.
Thats weird. The inlet isn't a huge upgrade. My guess is you have some other problem.
You can usually hear knock at WOT. The car will pull timing and basically stop pulling.
If its fuel cut you will definately notice bucking. The car will basically shut on off on off like it wants to stall.
Can you describe what "boggle" means lol. I really can't visualize that at all.
i mean maybe not boggling but like ill be running it hard like lets say 5th gear about 4000rpm to 4800
it like stops but i mean like hard stop i guess u can say bucks pretty hard when im running it hard only through 4th to 5th maybe even six gear havent tried it for some reason its for like a second and it then it goes back to normal then like before i get to 5200 it does it again
its kinda hard to explain
The description is very consistent with fuel/load cut. If so, it has nothing to do with the TIP installation or anything in your intake, other than that improved intake flow over stock can cause the ECU to do this, especially in cold weather. This happens to me when the temps get down to 50 degress or less.
What is the outside, ambient, temperature showing on your temp gauge when you experience these problems in 4th and 5th gear?
This is the ECU cutting fuel because it is sensing that if it mixes the necessary fuel with the available oxygen (cold air has more oxygen in it), that it will push the engine to make more power than the ECU considers safe for the conditions. It also does this if the ECU senses that the engine is getting boost spikes from the turbo that are more than about 18 psi. This can also happen in cold weather with even modest mods, but especially when you have both intake and dp/rp mods.
Do you have a boost gauge? If not, with your mods, you need something to monitor boost, either a mechanical gauge or a Dash Hawk, etc. This is really important at your mod level, as previous poster pointed out. REALLY IMPORTANT. DO IT.
I'm not sure that what you are describing is "abnormal." If it was doing this in 70 degree or warmer weather, that might suggest a problem.
Just my thoughts.
Well running in 6th isn't very smart unless your trying to set a land speed record.
Anyway it sounds like fuel cut to me. Your best bet is to buy a gauge to monitor that. Like a dashhawk or aeroforce scan gauge. An easy to install / good investment.
