Tuning Potential for MSP?

Hello everyone. I live in Sarasota FL and finally have the ability to trade in my POS for a new car. I know this may sound great but I dont know whether to get a Mazdaspeed Protege, a Neon SRT4 or an Acura RSX-S. I have driven the MSP and the acura and both are sweet. The dodge wont come out until the first week of March.

What is the tuning potential for the MSP? From what I understand, the MSP has the same engine as the ES 2.0 but with all the turbo components. How much faster can this car get? As fast as the Neon?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
if you just wanna drag the hell out of everyone, be my guest and get the SRT-4 right from the get go. dont waste your time and money trying to make the MSP faster if you are considereing the SRT-4 anyways.
 
I dont need to be the fastest car around but i would like a little more power. Maybe 220 HP at the wheels. An acura with the hondata chip CAI and exhaust would make the car almost as fast as the S2000. Could I get into the low 14's with the mazdaspeed without spending mucho dinero.
 
Do you need 4 drs?
Do you want luxury?
Does looks matter?

if you want 2 drs , luxury, and great performance - Type S
if you need capability of 4drs, w/o the luxuries MSP/SRT-4

Depending on how you like the styling of the two..decide from there... Both cars are fast, and handle well. SRT-4 is faster but MSP handles better.
Both have about the same amount of goodies.

Dodge or Mazda.

There is also the question of interior quality, between the MSP and the SRT. The MSP's is very nice, while the SRT's is cheap. But, you get WAY better seats in the SRT...
 
Well, if you really feel you need 220 HP at the wheels, it will cost you a hell of a lot more money to get that from the MSP or RSX-S. Get the Neon.
Now, if you want refinement and handling... different story. MSP or RSX-S with some better tires than the garbage all-season Michelins would be the hot ticket.
For both the MSP and RSX-S: you can get a bit more HP out of these two for a reasonable amount of money. Say about 20 hp or so for arguement sake. Anything further gains will require selling an organ or two. Both are almost maxed out in stock form.

YOU my friend, need to buy spoolin's mp3.

a yellow 2001 MP3 with a custom turbo and a laundry list of other mods is now for sale central (I think) florida. It puts down 230hp to the wheels i beleive. And im guessing you could get it for the price of a MSP if not less
 
The OVERALL winner in my book is the MSP. If you want the best BALANCE of everything in one sporty compact...go MSP.

The SRT-4 is a different beast...less refined beast...but still a very formidable car.

Anyway...I bet the SRT-4 people will never have such a cool site like this one to exchange information.;)
 
This was my debate too... I just stopped looking on paper and looked at the two pictures of the two different cars. I decided MSP > Neon SRT-4 because its still a NEON and its not the prettiest beast :D who cares about beating someone in a dam straight line, and do you REALLY want to WAIT 4+ months and get overcharged on the price? Get the MSP I did and im the happiest kid around :D
 
MAZDASPEED - THE DRIVER'S CAR......PERIOD!!!

(unless, of course, you wish to spend $25,000+ - then there are more options)
 
A non biased opinion...
Speed
SRT-4 (this thing is a monster stock runs 15psi that is all i have to say. cant think of any magazines off hand that talk about it )

Handling
*MSP (look at any magazine almost all state some thing on the line of ....best handling ever... or ....most complete car..... )

VTEC(piss) j/k (man I know I am going to be flamed for this)
RSX-S (not sure what to say never drove one never wanted to I just dont like it, sorry but it looks like a caviler on crack)

But since you are on a Mazda forum you cant take all the post about the MSP so literally as goes for the SRT-4 websites, and RSX-S the same holds true. Test them all out and the one you like the best buy.

IMHO I would say MSP it is a very modable platform. You can use almost any MP3 parts i think, has potential to up boost right out of the factory, some one on here did no mods other then a boost controller and runs 9.6psi peak fine, where as factory is 6.5-7.0. Thats just the way i look at it, it is your money do what you want.

Man I love this car.
