Tuner Hoods(ram air)

Off-highway use only? I don't think I'd be able to keep my car off-highway for long. Maybe for a dedicated show car trailer queen.

Whoa these are nice!
I wonder if you could rig sumtin up to have that slot shoot onto a turbo to cool it down a bit...

Now we just need a person to sell them..Spoolin? Rishie?

i like it. the mp5 is almost like the suburu wrx anyway

too bad we don't have top mounted filter/intercooler...oh well, looks cool

thats what i thought...i love the wrx hood scoop.....i'm super happy that there's one for the protege now....it'll look great on my mp3, once i save up enough money:cool:

If I am not mistaken this hood is functional. It has a tunnel in the hood that is directed to the air intake. Of course you would need to have a short ram intake to take advantage of it, but even if you didn't it would still let cold air into your engine bay. I like it but what is it made out of? Is it sheet metal or fiberglass? The price is right :D

i'm gonna be emailing them a bunch of questions....such as whats it made of....it looks like it might be fiberglass cause it only weighs 11 pounds....15 with the hinges....i'm all worriedd about the off highway thing. :(

maybe i'm still a newbie, or maybe it's 3:21am, or both. but doesn't off highway use mean that it's not street legal? either way, i'm stumped

They usually say off-road use only for that but they may mean it's not street legal. I was thinking it meant not high speed but you'd think hood pins could take care of that. What's the point of a hood scoop anyway if you can't go fast? :D

A lot of other mods are not technically street legal either. I gave up wondering if people care anymore when they post about mods.

I don't know of one HID system that is DOT certified for retrofitting on a Protege. The components may be certified but the stupid laws say they have to be certified for the specific application, if I recall. Most of the HID systems say they're for off-road use only in the small print.

People already think my car's a WRX. If I get that hood, it'll just make it that much worse. Although, it is a cool hood and it looks good on the WRX and SRT-4. But I would have to go with another one.

Can Anyone Say Group Buy....I think those hoods are sweet...!!

Chas

Ok, I emailed SLP about the hoods....i put together about 8 questions ranging everywhere from what material they're made of, to street legallity, to highway speeds. As soon as I get the response , i'll post it in this forum.:)

I just got off the phone with Dean from SLP and they are the one who make them and here is what i got so far . now for our car there are atleast 3-4 differant types of hoods (they all look idential) but one has a functional scoop (OEM style) goes for about $659.00 and is gel coated Fiberglass adn 1/2 prep.for painting the other is the same but has more prep work done and little more quality .. the others include i one layer fiberglass which is used with 4 hood pins and it is $197.15 USD and the last one i am aware of at this point is a Hinge mount that requires 2 front hood pins for $262.51 i have my buddies shop that will be setting up a deal with them so i will be able to order you these hoods of your choice .. also he will be here in Nashville TN on Firday for the SEMA show .. so he is like 3 hours from me and i might go there to get a hood or to meet him .. i have told him about us and he is very excited to have our future business

Actually, it's the hood pins that are often the problem. In some states, you have to have the latch.
And I dont blame state DOT's. We've all seen pin-held hoods blow off in our favorite genres of racing.

check your state codes, people.
And yes, often the purpose-built s*** is in there.
THese rules are often to keep people from using baling wire to hold a bumper up, or putting red Solo cups on instead of tailights (I think that one's at Beaterz.com).
