TRZ Motor Mounts

So I am looking for a set of motor mounts for my MS3. I originally ordered the SU set, but they are on back order for about another few weeks (or months). I looked on PG and they have the TRZ mounts for 100 bucks less. Am I sacrificing quality for price if I get the TRZ mounts over SU mounts?? Decisions decisions.... Any input would be helpful in my final decision.

not at all. i think if you do research here and on other forums, you will find that the TRZ mounts generate superior acclaim from customers based on the quality and performance. you are talking about a company that is featured on the SPEED channel based on their components performance and quality;

personally, i feel they are the best performing mount for the car. some people don't like the initial vibrations, but the reduction in wheel hop, smoothness of shifting, power to the ground will - as my first 2010 ms3 customer put it - transform the car into a whole new animal. it is the only mount with a near-zero failure rate. no other brand - CP-e, SU, AWR, Medieval - can come close to claiming this.

So with the TRZ motor mounts do I need side motor mounts or is that all included?? It seems like this kit is just a rear t-bone mount, tranny mount, and the damper kit. Or is that all I need for a strong set up??

well the transmission mount is a side mount. AWR makes a really great passenger mount now which we do sell. in tandem with the TRZ rear and transmission mount its a good combo. the damper functions equally as well and, honestly, makes for a nice eye candy addition to the engine bay :)

+1 for both the TRZ mounts and pg.
i have the lower rear mount which rocks, vibes aren't bad at all (not the race one)

the tranny mount, while there's no doubt it did what it was supposed to, just vibed to
much for me so i sold that one.

i think there's only been 1 TRZ mount that failed but i think it was due to a bad press
of the metal sleeve inside as opposed to a wear and tear failure. I am on the TRZ rear for 20k miles now and it still works perfectly.

On some site I saw that you have a choice of Delrin or polyurethane for the bushing material on the TRZ. Obviously the delrin is going to be stiffer. Anyone have hardness (durometer) info for these two materials ?

delrin is very hard, well over 100 durometer. the polyurethane is close to 95.

So would you strongly reccomend the TR-Z over the AWR, even for a primarily DD?

I've got the TRZ poly and love it, very easy to install. couple of my friends have the AWR harder mount and it looks stock which is a pain in the ass to install and i actually think it vibrates more than the TRZ.

I just got my AWR 70 durometer and im pretty happy with it. Was a little difficult to get in there, but it definitely does its job. You dont feel the engine thrashing about during normal driving.

however from the only rolling launch ive done, i did still have some wheel hop in first and second, but it was definitely smoother, but traction definitely improved.

installation on any of the rear mounts is made easier by removing the bracket from the engine itself as well, which adds a few minutes to the install but in my mind is worth it

my experience with softer mounts on this car is that the bushing will, over time, soften to the point where the effect will not be felt any longer, or the bushing will tear. we had quite a few problems with the earlier AWR mounts in softer trim and CPe mounts as well. this is why i am so adamant in regards to recommending the TRZ and actually why I asked them to develop it and the transmission mount to begin with. you will find that even with the stiff polyurethane, the vibes are not severe once broken in and the benefit is well worth the price of admission.

Yep. Not sure if the vibes actually settled down, or if I just got used to them, but I did pay attention on a road trip to Dallas last week, and I was hard pressed to notice any abnormal vibration. The only vibration I have after 8-9 months is the e-brake button, which is an easy fix. I'm just more lazy by nature than bothered by the button buzzing, so lazy wins. And the performance benefit of the piece has FAR outweighed any vibration or noise issues. I've only managed to eff up the 2-3 shift once since the swap.
