i recently just got my 07 Mazda 3 and it came with the basic aux input in the center console. now i don't want to piss off anyone cuz i saw how hostile they got in the previous threads but when i connect my mp3 player to it and press media nothing happens. i connected it with a normal 3.5mm male cable. help?

My apologies if I am stating the obvious, but just to confirm, the aux input won't control the MP3 player, so you will have to manually control it. Plus I have found that the volume on my iPod needs to be turned up pretty high in order to get it to play through, so maybe your volume is low?

Other than that, there's nothing else you should have to do. If it's broken, good news is it will be under warranty for you (just a hassle). Good luck!

Seconded.
It's just a straight audio input and nothing more.

As for the volume issues, that's what you can expect from trying to drive it with "speaker-level" output. Google for a headphone amplifier...

thx for the replies but im not expecting to control it through the steering wheel, my problem is that it doesn't even detect my mp3 player. no sound comes out at all, it won't even switch to media mode.

Do you see "Aux" on the display on the radio? If not...well that certainly is a big problem. (I also don't have a "Media" button...mine says "Aux".) I know I had to turn the volume on my Rio up to 3/4 max to get a good level of sound output. I also need to have the radio up to 20+ for it to sound loud...

it could be he has a Sirius installed, i didn't realize that the media button is eliminated once you install a sat in there.

This is exactly what I think the problem is, having the same issue on my 07 M3. If he does in fact have Sirius, he needs to have his dealership or whoever install a switching box that allows the Sirius and the aux input jack to co-exist peacefully.

Of course, he could be like me with what must be the worst luck in the world and though it's been 2 weeks since I took delivery of my car, I still don't have the aux working correctly (one incompetent dealership and now the second dealership has found that the switching box that was installed had a bad ground so they need to wait for a new one to come in to install that in my baby).

/tk

Like they said, the ACI (Auxiliary Console Input) uses the same port on the HU as the sirius/phatbox/ipod adapter. If you have any of these installed then the other end of the plug from your ACI is just chillin' behind the HU and isn't plugged into anything.

Many dealers don't realize that the feature is disabled and don't know that there's a switchbox available. Some people have gotten it for free on the grounds that it was a selling point of the car and the dealer didn't say they would lose the capability of the input. That and they don't want to fork out $113. ;)
