Tread Seperated on Stock Tires

I knew that my stock tires were getting very bald and that I needed an alignment, but I was completely shocked today when I got under the card to change the oil and noticed that the tread on my right front tire had separated (see pics)! So, I switched my fronts over to the winter tires already :( and I will have to get an alignment tomorrow night.

I guess that I should be happy that I got about 85,000 KM (53,000 miles) out of them. The car is now at 112,000 KM (70,000 miles), so I must have about 27,000 KM (17,000 miles) on my winter tires (Pirelli Winter IceSport, which REALLY SUCK by the way).

I guess that the stock tire limit is under 85,000 KM!!!! Time for some new summer tires next spring (looking at Kumho Ecsta ASXs).

Anyway, gotta get ready for Thanksgiving dinner (sorry Americans) and then off to the Toronto vs. Ottawa hockey game tonight (go leafs!).

Mine did that on my last set of wheels. What pissed me off was that the tires were actually in great shape, except for the insides. I would have had several thousand miles left on them. Every one of them was about to do that, but only one actually did. Stupid me didn't get an alignment after I lowered my car.

Completely my fault

Yeah, I fully take responsibility for this (I am not trying to blame the tires). We were being very cheap and trying to get a last summer out of the stockers. As said, they should have gone in the garbage last winter, but the cheapness took-over! It really wasn't worth breaking down on the side of the hiway, or worse.

I need to get an alignment done right away, the winter tires are so soft that they won't last long without one.

Same thing happed to me, but I had a lot more tread left on the rest of the tire.

I took it in for an alignment and they said the alignment was within spec. The technician even came out and chatted with me. He gave me some printouts with the actually readings he got along with specs of where the alignment should be.

yea it happened to me as well but with 24000miles on the car. the tires were pretty much gone but they were separating

Holy crap, those tires are (boom06)

You get a (smash) for endangering not only yourself and passengers by driving on such tires, but other motorists who you might have slid into on those gripless wonders.

I'm sorry, but not only is this irresponsible, it is also dangerous for you and everyone else on the road. There is a reason you can't pass inspection with bald tires.

What if you were driving 65MPH on the highway when this happened? For starters you'd be looking at buying a new rim.

Be Happy, I average 10,000 Km on a set of mine...And they are alot more than the crap Dunlop that comes on the P5 Stock..

Is about 6,000+ miles on the tire displayed below? Do you drive aggressively on the road or do you race with them? I would expect those Paradas to last a lot longer than 10K "miles" with normal gentle driving.

Aw c'mon. He already took respnsability for it.

Live and learn.

Cheapness may result in great expenses sometimes... do the right thing when it's necessary.

Several hundred dollars for tires vs several thousands for car damage + maybe medical bills + increase in insurance premium... u do the math.

Not really. It's because I like Smoke and Drive the car not based on conserving the tires but conserving my pleasure.

I'm very hard on them. I have changed the fronts 4 times so far and the rears are still going strong at over 50,000 Km...
