Transmission Whine sound when turning the wheel

My '08 has 48k miles on it and is fairly quiet in the slow turns (full steering wheel cock).
I use MotorCraft trans fluid #XT-M5-QS.
Best fluid going for these cars.
Google it.
Cheers!

The latter would be the LSD clutches "chattering" (although it doesn't sound like chattering to me, it's more of a groaning noise).

Clutch "chattering" is not possible because there are no clutch discs employed in the MS3 LSD.

The friction surface is a conical taper ring (made of steel).

This noise is absolutely the limited slip diff. It's a cone type diff. These can be noisy turned tight, especially after fluid changes. There is wear wherever there is noise, however, many have run thousands of miles with the noise and no ill effects.

Friction modifier will not be recommended by the manufacturer because of risk to the blocker rings in the trans from its use. That said, I added a touch of it after MT-90 because I couldn't stand the racket from the lsd and I've had no issues. You can buy a small bottle of FM at any Ford dealer for a couple bucks.

You are definitely hearing the LSD. I have been running MT-90 in my car for a few years and it was loud in slow turns (especially when cold). It usually goes away when everything is heated up. I added enough friction modifier so I can barely hear it when cold.

Note: If you are adding friction modifier, make sure to change your fluid often (I do every 30K) since it breaks the fluid down much faster than normal.
