Transmission shifting behavior AWD

One thing I also noticed is that if you come up to a stop sign, but do not fully stop, and then proceed to accelerate, shortly after you begin to pick up speed you can feel the transmission engage "more into the gear", i.e. less slippage. I think I am just being too picky.

That's the clutch engaging and the torque converter locking up at 5 mph. Seems that very few owners here really understand how the SkyActiv 6AT works, although there have been plenty of posts that have discussed it at length.

I just drove a Nissan CVT the other day, and I was very disappointed with the weird non-connected feeling of the CVT gearbox. yuck!

I love the Skyactiv Transmission's feel, and I felt that my very early 2013 model was not as quick to act, as the 2015 model I now have.

Does the clutch system also "not lock" when coasting in gear, allowing the tq converter to free-wheel, as it were, a few hundred rpm below speed of travel would otherwise dictate? I have had the vehicle jerk pretty hard when accelerating hard after coasting down a hill on occasion, as well.

Not to my knowledge. It's difficult to say, from your description, what might cause that.

Yea that happens to me as well. Especially say maybe 2nd gear 3000 rpm and floor it, s*** bucks hard (sometimes triggering the knock sensor). I will be installing my RMM next time I get a chance to use the self help shop on base. Some of that is the motor mount. Simple look at the motor with the car in neutral and push the gas while moving with road bumps etc that is enough to trigger the sensor and a power cut.

What I described happens above 5mph which is why it is a bit odd.

I would attribute that behavior to your aftermarket tune before I would say it's a characteristic of the vehicle. Most of us have the software Mazda developed and tested, and are not having any issues hitting the knock sensor.

Happens to mz3 owners with no tune. Same rmm, people buy the cs or jbr mounts to nullify it. Besides i doubt you'd notice it on the 2.p0op, i never did on mine.

This is my first automatic car that I have purchased without intentions of flipping it, all of my previous vehicles that I have purchased were manuals for the exact same reason, modern automatics are programmed weird and have odd behavior. The torque converter creating the odd behavior is definitely a big possibility. I am glad someone else notices exactly what I am referring to, and I too have considered going to the dealer and have them check it out but I will definitely get "its normal" response. Heck, I went to the dealer with my drivers seat having the rocking issue and they told me that is normal.

My girlfriend has a 15' Jetta TSI and it too has an odd behavior when it shifts into 2nd, almost like it wants to fall on its face but then it takes off. Happens in a matter of seconds, and her 15' rental Jetta did the same thing. Really annoying.

My GTI did that and re-calibrating the throttle body fixed it for about a month (I have vagcom). One of the reason I got the new car was to not have to deal with that kinda stuff. Thats probably my only real "nag" with this car.
