Transmission help!

[Type-R-MSP]

i jst got my mazdaspeed in june and it seemed to be fine.. i thot it would be quicker.
But anywho.. I lauched it at 4800-5000 and i blew the tranny.. my car has 155xxx kms and i dont normally launch it or race it.. but i should have gotten a type R integra cause its quicker then my car. and all my buddies dont have issues except for regular maintainance.. mean while mine runs like s*** wen its cold wen i swear thats "turbo" weather.. **** boost N/A is the way!

i think im gonna sell my msp after reading this review.

Go spend $15,000 on a 9 year old Type R just to fit in with your buddies, and you'll get that big 200 horsepower. We'll be here holding our collective breath....

Maybe you should have considered the fact that a stock MSP has 170hp, and a stock Type R has 200hp. That would've told you the Type R was likely to be faster right off the bat. Just because a car is turbocharged dosen't mean it's faster than a NA car.

Back on topic.. the local guy (the one I thought was the OP lol) finally heard back from the tranny shop. He said they told him it was the final drive that went out, so go figure.. maybe it's not always the LSD.

By the way, what is the final drive anyway? Just another gear? I'm not all that savvy with transmissions..

Isn't the final drive the gear that is hooked up to the LSD? and that's why the 4th gear in most standards make close to a 1:1 ratio?

4th gear is closed to 1:1, but that doesn't have anything to do with the final drive really... and yes, the final drive output is the pinion gear, the ring gear is part of the LSD.
