How to "turn off" 4WD system

Have a 2008 GT with 4 wheel drive. I have the dreaded 4WD light flashing when starting from a stopped position or during acceleration this winter. Sounds like the transfer case issue. I read in another post here that the 4 wheel drive can be "turned off". Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you in advance.

You have to pull wires controlling the rear differential.
That is what I remember. You will find it when you look at the differential.

Sorry to hear about it. If you ever consider replacing it, you might try a rebuilt one from Napa Auto Parts.....might be a better rebuild than the factory condition from Ford.
