Sat I was on my way to get a shower, about to go to Myrtle Beach for a cruise (BTW, I saw Toolman there, nice ride bro! I was a little drunk, don't mind me hehe). I went to shift to 3rd and it wouldn't go. I posted on Maz2001MP's thread, cause he had the same problem, I will just cut and paste. Read his post called TRANNY PROBLEM for the whole thing.

WHEW!! I thought it was just mine and all the s*** I did to it. Yesterday I was driving my car and I went to shift to 3rd. I was getting on it and I was shifting hard, but when I went to go to 3rd it wouldn't go. Then it was stuck in either 4th or 5th, may be 3rd, I dunno. I can leave the shifter in neutral and it will still be in that same gear.

I jacked it up and heres what I found. neutral, 3rd, and 4th the wheels will roll. If I put it in 1st, 2nd, 5th, or reverse and let out on the clutch, nothing. The wheels don't move at all, the car just stalls.

I am taking it to Mazda Monday. Maybe they won't give me a hard time about the mods. If they do I can use this as an example, yours did the same thing.

now, this tranny problems... seems like turbocharging is not much of a good idea then....

I am sorry to hear the bad news.....They may give you a lot of s*** since you modifyed the car.....I also dont think the clutch or tranny is in the warranty..I think they might consider it wear and tear like brakes.....I could be wrong....I hope i am...Let us all know what they say and what happened to the car.....I read in car and driver when they tested the mp3 it had the best transmission, they gave it a 10 compared to the wrx,volks,sentra,neon,eclipse..GOOD LUCK

No way is a tranny "wear & tear" like brakes - clutch, maybe, but not the tranny.

Might be a tough fight with the mods - hopefully your dealer can get the repair approved without a visit from a Mazda rep.

but nc mp3 has an aftermarket clutch... so thats out of the place... i vote for transmission, most of us had the grind from 1st to 2nd since we got our cars... and if the tranny is going away with NA cars i guess FI is going to blow it to pieces...

WOOHOO! I called today and they said they will warranty it! They said they opened up the tranny and didn't find a thing wrong with it, but they are gonna put a new one in anyway. The other 2 guys, I called the dealerships and they said it was the shifter fork that was bent.

I think I got off lucky!

OK, I am calling Mazda about a recall damnit, 5 locked tranny's

OK guys, this isn't just random s*** here. There have been alot of complaints about the tranny in Protege's and MP3's. Here is the line up:

5 Locked Tranny's, stuck in a gear, even neutral is a gear

5 reports of grinding when shifting into 3rd

6 reports of being hard to shift into a gear

I have the names and dealerships of me and 2 other people with locked tranny's. MP3SkaterNC I need your name and you took it to Stevenson in Wilm right?

aphat01mp3 I need your name and the dealer you took it to.

I am gonna call Mazda about this cause I know if mine ***** up again they are gonna give me s*** about my mods. They told me they couldn't find a thing wrong with my tranny but they replaced it anyway, that sounds fishy. I think they know there is a defect but don't want to admit it.

Anyone with me on this?

It'll be hard to get a recall for five locked tranny's...But, that's just me. I haven't had any problems.

I already had my scycros replaced due to grinding and recently it started grinding again when shifting from 2nd to 3rd at high rpms also ive been having trouble gettinging into reverse from nuetrual unless im moving. i will be taking my car in again soon.

ok i think we really gotta be serious about this.... this is crap.... I dont want to wait until my tranny blows up to get it fixed...... Should we all give our names or wutnot to sign a petition for recall to Mazda NA?

JCsMP3 has a locked tranny/messed up fork a couple months ago as well, hes not posting on here lately but look him up and email him....

speaking of ginding tranny's i was driving my car today i decided to test out my new AEM intake well this is the first time ive driven it hard over 70 mph.. well i was at 5800 rpm in 4th and i went to shift into 5th and i know i had the clutch all the way in and i attempted to shift into 5th and there was this god awful grinding and it threw the shiter back at me... but it seems like everthing is ok .... has anyone else experienced this????

1. I actually get the problem shifting into reverse sometimes too. I have to start rolling to get it to pop into gear.

2. A car manufacturer will not do a recall unless they determine that a recall will be cheaper than the lawsuits from people complaining.

Mine is hard to get into second sometimes, thats the one i grind the most. 3rd is just irritating because theres no reason we should have any trouble with it

At first i thought it was just me having trouble in reverse.... I try to put it in reverse and it will not go all the way... i let the clutch out the slightest bit and it catches and grinds a little then it will let you slide it in reverse.
