03.5 blue MS protege
(dunno) does anyone know how many horses our tranny can take before it will need to be changed! what options are there??

Yes, I'm curious as well; especially with t3ase saying they're not solid (i already knew a few mazda trannies let go after 100 000 clicks)..... apart from the reinforced drive shafts is anyone aware of further modifications to the MSP's tranny??

BTW, will it scare you if i say that the first oil change i had there was an mpv in the garage with two guys on a pipe-wrench trying to turn one of its driveshafts.... and it wouldn't move??.............Can we hit the panic button now?

Well since the MSP tranny is very similar/If not the same as every other protege..I would say..about 250hp..to the wheels...give or take 20hp!

dont dump the clutch and dont boy racer power shift and the trannies will hold just fine... just remember to lay down the power once your in gear and not before or during

According to Sport Compact Car, the HP in the MSP was limited more to protect the tranny than the internals of the motor. Trannies are funny, though. Treat them right and they'll treat you right, even with more power. Boost up your motor and tear across some stutter bumps or something at full throttle and it might treat you wrong.

That's the truth...Don't dump the clutch..

i know that dumping the clutch gives you better times..and that great wheel hop..But i am sure that the tranny will only last you if you treat it right!

Chas

what about the turbo kits that are 280 hp with a t3/t04. That is with upgraded internals and a better clutch!!

you can olways CRYOGENIC STRENGTHEN the trans will hold holger and be much stonger

thats what i'm gona do along with the axle's

excuse my ignorance, but can you enlighten me as to what cryogenic strengthening is, how it is acheived and where to get this done?? thank you...

Cryogenics involves chilling metal in ultra-cold liquids, causing the particles of the metal to be alligned in a more uniform pattern as opposed to a random spread. The result is vastly improved strength & rigidity.

I see, then i suppose it involves dismantling the entire transmission apart, prior to the procedure; this must also be quite costly.... is it worth it you think??

And SCC loves the Neon SRT-4...

The Mazdaspeed Protege was limited power wise for a number of reasons, and the tranny was not one of them...

(hand) How foolish of me. I guess they made it up.

I doubt they made it up entirely, but they aren't completely accurate neither.

cryo makes a huge difference. there was an ariticle somewhere about how a tractor puller dude would have to overhaul/or replace some turbo parts and such after 8-10 pulls or so. After he cryo treated it, it lasted 100 and some pulls before he would have to fix anything.

Guys, our cars were never made with boost in mind. Speed shifting and dumping the clutch will KILL your tranny, as it did mine. In my case, it was the differential. It had completely seperated due to too many clutch drops.

Funny this is that there was a STOCK msp in there when I went to go pick up mine with the EXACT same problem. TAKE CARE OF YOUR TRANSMISSION. I would have been out $1300 + labor had some circumstances not come up.
