Trading in the msp....check out what the mazda manager said.

I drive a caution cone
I owned my msp for a few months. I decided that this was not the right car for me after driving a few months.
Anyways, today i went to check out the EVOs. They are selling them at invoice since 04 models are coming out. I told the sales person that i'd like to trade in my new 03 msp. Since the msp is not yet in the books they called a mazda dealership to ask how much they are going for in the trade in. This is from the mouth of the mazda sales manager, "These cars have tons of factory rebate and we can't even these cars away." "Noone wants them, they are just sitting here on the lots." "I wouldn't give more then a penny over 12k for trade in."

Anyways i guess i'm stuck with a car that i don't like. Can't really sell it since the value of these cars have gone south.

This is the last mazda i'll ever own. I'm sure i'll be able to get about 8k in a couple years.

Not to be an ass, but I think you should have researched your options more before you bought the car. I can't imagine why you wouldn't want the MSP unless all you either like to go fast only in a straight line or you're really short & don't care about a back seat (unlike me).

Anyway, I wish I had $$ for an EVO...good luck with everything.

If you own and drive a car every day for a few months, either you'll love the car or dislike it.

I don't like the driving position (too high), steering position, i don't like the pedel position (heels hurt in traffic), I hate the gear box (half the time it doen't go in to first. 2nd gear is rough going in), on even power delievery (sometimes it makes power, most of the time it hesitiates), no clutch feel (learned after 2hours a day in traffic), rattlebox after couple months, engine vibrates and shakes the steeringwheel, random highpitch screeching noise (not turbo), engine moves around too much and shakes the car in traffic. Theres bunch more i can't think of right now.
I used to look foward to driving my civic, taking longer routes so i can enjoy driving it more. With the msp, i take the short route so i wouldn't be in the car longer then i have to. I'd like to think of the msp as a pretty blond chic we all wanted in highschool, idea of sex with her is much better then the real thing.
I wanted to love the car, but i grew to dislike it. Its a free country i can buy something and later grow apart from it. Alot of things i learned to look for on my next car.

Ouch... no wonder they are selling the MSPs so cheap at the local dealerships.

Well if a mistu dealer calls a mazda dealer and asks what they are going for in trade do you expect the mazda dealer to give an honest opinion?? he knows that a mazda is about to be traded in to a competitor so im sure he was trying to get the mitsu dealer to give you a cheap price so you wouldnt trade your car in, which you didnt. Probably just his way of making sure you keep your mazda and dont buy from a competitor

Private sell - I don't know how many miles your MSP has on it, but you'll probably get a lot closer to $15,000 if not more. Coming online though and griping about it won't do much to help your sale if the person who you're selling to has internet access and knows how to google =) Instead you should say "Well sadly I have to part ways with my sweet precious little Mazdaspeed - oh how dearly I've loved her, but alas we were not meant to be :( I only hope I find a new owner worthy of her greatness..." ;)

Eventhough I only paid $16,000 for my MSP, it only took me less than 1 month to figure out that it is not a keeper. Just like after a couple of times of having sex with a chic you wold know if he's a keeper or not....
I only going to driv this car for 3 years top until I have a nice positive equity and then trade it in for what I should have bought to begin with, an EVO or WRX.
All I have to say it that I am very dissapointed in Mazda. They lied about the HP in the RX-8, the Miata and I am sue the Mazda Protege (non-turbo) also. How can a car rated at 130 bhp only make 95 whp? The Protege should have been rated at only 120 bhp. Nobody complained too much because after all it's a econobox and not a sport car like the Miata and RX-8.
Everytime I get a survey from Mazda I complain about how disspointed I am with Mazda and that I will never own another Mazda.
Obviously, I am not satisfied with the MSP, but I don't complain about it everyday. Just learn to live with it and get rid of it as soon as you can.

You know, back when the 2002 (I think) new generation Civic Si came out. A friend and I went to the Honda dealership may a year after the release to inquire information about it. The dealership was very harsh on the Si. I wasn't even looking for a trade-in. He asked me, "Why are you even thinking about buying that?"... "We can't even give them away!".... He went on to tell us all about the mistakes Honda made back in Japan and how they had to send their engineers here to find out why the sales was so poor for the new Si. I didn't like the Si, but didn't expect to get bombarded with negative information from their own dealers.

But I like honest dealers (or maybe he was just REALLY fed up with it), if he had sugar coated the Si I wouldn't have changed my mind about it anyways. :D

Yeah Autox MSP, I had the same thing happen to me also. I tried to trade the MSP on a 04 srt-4. The Dodge dealer called to the Mazda dealership to find out the trade in value on the MSP cause of it not being in the Blue book yet. Mazda told them that my car was worth only 10k! I was like bull s***. I mean my car is less than 7 months old and has low mileage and in perfect condition. So I called the Mazda dealer and asked what is the crietria for figuring the value and the sale man told me that the trade in value is just an opnion, and that I would get the most value by going back to the same Mazda dealer I purchased from. The only reason I want to trade it in is due to me having to take it to Mazda every couple of weeks to get fixed when it is basically brand new. I have never had this amount of problems with a new car. So I told Dodge to kiss my ass. I plan on just keeping the MSP and after I thought deeply about it at least Mazda fixes all the issue with car the first time. Plus I like my car a lot other than the problems. Lastly the issue that I am having almost everyone on the forum is having and the problems are pretty minor. So i will keep it and pray for no more problems!

no ******* s***. i coulda told that you wont get more than 12k for a mazdaspeed protege. **** the trade in, dude. dont be lazy, ******* sell it privately. and stop bitching. i hate your whining as much as you hate your car. Youre not "stuck" go get another job, sell the car in the local paper, whatever. you can do whatever the **** you want, but if im gonna have to read more of your complaining about a car you dont want, im gonna explode.

yeah i agree... selling it privately will increase the price you get because dealers don't want MSP on their lots... not because its a bad car, but because they don't make them anymore. If it was a limited production car that was actually in demand (panoz esperante), then dealers would grab them. MSPs aren't very expensive, and so people can actually buy something new. Also, selling it independently will also give you the opportunity to explain to people that you've corrected all the horrible problems that people have heard about the MSP. That or just keep and learn next time that tuned cars from the factory are prone to the same problems as tuned cars aftermarket.

SOunds right to me.
There have been several that haven'y budged in a month at a local dealer here. Even the titanums.

If its not right for you thats cool and just explore your options a bit more. I don't know your location but moving that car with winter beating down the door won't be easy and you'll have to take a lower price for it.

I'd wait for summer and list it for $15K:
1. It won't be snowing any more
2. There will be NO MSPs avaialble new then.
