Traded my Honda, new to Mazdas

Hello all,

I recently traded in my 96 Honda Civic for a 2010 Mazda 3 iSport (2.0L).

I got excited when I saw DOHC VVT on the engine cover, but I was reading that Mazda's variable valve timing doesn't affect lift and duration. Is that true?

I also saw it's an L series motor with FoMoCo stamped on the side. Does that basically mean it's the same motor used in the Ford Focus?

I'm pretty sure it is the same motor from the Focus because the two cars are based on the same platform.
