Trade In Value

The best you can do it wait 6 months. Once the proteges are all sold then we should see the resale going back up as its replacemtn won't have rebates offered.

Well I tested the market for a trade myself and found they would offer 10-14. They really don't have a lot of info available and one dealer even priced it as a regular Protege with add-ons. Either one of two things will happen; in time the value will increase or the bottom will drop out completely...

On a good note you can go to edmunds.com and it gives a trade-in value of 17.7, for mine anyway with 7200 miles on it. Of course this didn't really help at the dealers.

Oh yeah most dealers are going to give you as little as possible so when they sell a used msp for 17k they can make 7..... Then they can make you feel special by giving you "more than what it's worth" at 11 or 12k.... I sell cars for a living and have to deal with my used car manager for trades he always gives a few grand under trade value then deducts for any problems

yeah my car is worth $17,900 trade and said they would sell it for like $21k. I doubt I will be trading it in though, but if my mom doesn't feel its safe after I get it back from being fixed then I might have to. Oh well

I'm not sure how anyone could resale one for 21K when you can buy them new for less than that now with the rebates. I have owned and traded many cars and have never seen a "limited" production car loose value so quickly. I guess we can only hope that it goes up once they are not available new anymore. I only wish I would have bought mine with the rebates that are avaliable now and it wouldn't be such a difference between what I paid and what it's worth...

I work for ford as well but buying a mazda you'd get s plan. My sister got to use it for her speed...

I must have been thinking of something else when I said X-plan. I was able to use the Ford discount which made the purchase price around $16500 when it was all over. Also, the car is limited production, but that only matters if the car is a hot seller and there is a bigger need than production. Even the STi and Evo where said to be limited production, but you see those sitting on lots as well. Now the SRT-4 might be different since those are selling as soon as they arrive.

I just purchased mine off the lot for $16500 after the rebate so I doubt you will see much more than $11 - 12k. Mazda is giving away the farm and still dealers in my area have 3+ on the lot.
Yep it's like an Albatross now. No Dealer wants it around their neck come 04. Now it's all 3's, 6's, and RX8's. The way of the Protege is gone forever... And apparently a whole Hell of alot cheaper while they last :p
