Looking to trade in our '07 CX-7 Touring AWD w/67k miles. KBB indicates a trade-in value of about $10k. We were offered that much by a Carmax several months back and thought it was low.
We recently stopped in at a Mazda dealer to inquire about selling it to them outright (no new purchase) because they sent me a card in the mail saying they wanted to buy it and would make us an "aggressive" offer. Unfortunately, the Carfax came back with incorrect info (noted an "airbag deployment" in September - my wife got rear-ended at very slow speed when parking and had a scratch/scuff but no damage - we didn't even repaint the scratch - and certainly no airbag deployment). The dealer told us that because of that notation on the Carfax they wouldn't be able to sell it themselves and would have to sell it at auction. They offered us $7500 (if memory serves) and indicated that if not for that notation on the Carfax, we might get at least $2000 more (but were noncommittal about the specific number).
Fortunately, we were able to track down the police report and submit a request to Carfax to get them to remove it. They still note an accident and "damage" to the rear bumper (unfortunately, the cop didn't provide specifics on the report - would have been nice if he stated that it was just a scratch), but Carfax *did* remove the "airbag deployment" notation, so hopefully that will be enough to increase the trade-in value by a decent amount.
So any thoughts about what we should reasonably expect? And if we *do* decide to trade it in for a new Mazda (CX-5 Touring AWD most likely), should we expect to get a better deal than if we were to trade it in elsewhere towards something else (e.g., a Toyota)?
