Trade in or sale CX-5 for new cx-9?

Honda's 3.5 VTECH V6 in the new pilot only gets 1 MPG less than the CX-9. It's doable.
But Honda 3.5L VTEC V6 uses timing belt requires expensive routine replacement. Its VCM, Variable Cylinder Management system - the cylinder deactivation system for fuel efficiency, is problematic even in theory and involved class-action lawsuit.

Of course I'd like to see an SA-G V6, but it seems highly unlikely for a small automaker like Mazda under CAFE pressure.

To answer the original question: I would check prices at Edmunds.com and maybe true car to get some basic information as to what your 2015 is worth, trade-in or retail and go from there. Either way you are going to take a financial beating. I would try to keep the CX5 as many years as possible before dumping it. Ed
