what's normal tps range for a 2003 mazdaspeed protege??? I still haven't figured the P0171 code. My idle is around 700 and the tps range is around 10... just wondering if those number are out of the ordinary.

No clue on the TPS reading but your RPM is normal.

Check out this pdf for a possible reason for P0171

A dirty MAF or vacuum leak could also throw that code. What if any driveability issues do you have and what is your vacuum reading at idle? <!-- / message -->

The car has a bit of a loping idle, it occasionally stalls when the load is removed from the motor. Also, it gets a hard hesitation whenever the i get on it. I went through and cleaned the MAF, EGR, Throttle Body and Changed the air filter. I also went through and did the brake cleaner around the vacuum lines. Kinda running out of ideas. I going to school right now, and money is kinda tight. (otherwise i'd take it to a shop.) Any suggestion would help before i give in and take it in to a shop.

Well that rules out a dirty maf but still leaves the possibility of a WGA issue. Do you hear a whistling sound at idle in addition to that hesitation felt when you get on it? Becareful about that as a faulty WGA can cause an extreme overboost situation.

Boost gauge? What is your vac reading at idle? Have you ever changed you spark plugs and pcv?

i don't have a boost or vac gauage.... I changed out my spark plugs, but i haven't changed out my pvc... i'll give those a shot and try to get the vac read... what is normal vac range anyway???

18-22 depending on gauge and weather. What is your odometer mileage? And do you hear any noise with the engine running, might want to start the car and pop the hood and listen(WGA). Purolator part #PV1047 works better in our cars and cost less than $3 for a new pcv. Have you had the P0171 cel as long as the car has been hesitating? Doubt the pcv triggered the cel but it won't hurt to swap it out either way.

yeah, p0171 has been the only code shown... The engine doesn't sound bad, i can hear it spool, boost blow off. The only thing i can think of is that a vacuum is occluded or there is a valve malfunction somewhere. It seems to be an issue of vacuum pressure when returning to idle. Just a few thoughts i had

i just put in my new motor and im having the same issue hard jerk under boost and bad idling. and my wga is fine also im not sure whats going on
>> also ive noticed when i let off the gas the rpm goes down as normal until i hit 1,500 then it stay there for a half second and continues as normal. my a/f will spike also when that happens then drop back to reading nothing
im thinking about installing my ss afc and giving it a tune to see if thatll help
