TPMS for Winter Wheels / Tires

2010 CX-9
Hi,

I just bought a 2012 CX-9 GT. I live in the mountains and need a winter tire / wheel setup.
Based partially on information here, I got some used 07/08/09 CX-7 18" wheels and new 245/60R18 Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT tires.
One of the wheels came with Siemens VDO GN38-37140 B Tire Pressure Monitoring System (from an 07, not sure of the mileage). It looks just like the "Old Sensor" on this post.
The other 3 wheels have no TPMS.
There are some good threads here about various Siemens and Continental sensors but is unclear to me which ones are compatible with a 2012 CX-9.

Can I get 3 more used Siemens VDO GN3A-37140 B and expect them to connect with the 12 CX-9? They are available for ~$25 each.
Or should I stick with correct ones for the model/year, which I gather is the Continental BBM2-37-140B and cost ~$25 each used and ~$65 each new.

I understand that the TPMS use batteries which can't be replaced. How much life can I expect out of used ones?

Thanks!

I go without on my winter tires. Cars never used to come with this technology, it's useful but you can also just look at the tire and notice if it's getting low.
