Toyo Tires on Mazda 5

I had the Toyos on my '09 also. The tread was already low when I bought the car with 32000 miles on it, and they were VERY noisy. They lasted until 36000 miles when I got a flat in one of them that couldn't be repaired, so I replaced all 4 with the Continental Extreme Contact. Those seem to be good tires - much quieter ride and so far so good after 10000 miles.

The Toyos actually did make it through one Michigan winter and performed better than I expected. I didn't drive them in any deep snow though.

The all-season Toyo tires on my 2010 Mazda 5 are worn out after only 20,000km! I do 40,000km/year and use snow tires from Nov.-Apr (6 months). The snow tires are fine so it's not the car; it's not the alignment and it's not the driver. The all-seasons tires developed a loud drone sound.
The all-seasons are not directional and the snow tires are directional.

Referring to "frodream's" posting on 07-26-2009, 04:42 AM, if the problem was the alignment then I would expect my snow tires to worn out too, but they're fine.

My Mazda dealer has come through with some financial support going forward but the Toyo rep offered no compensation - not even a break on the new tires I will buying next spring.

I'll never buy Toyo tires again - especially on a new car.

Here's what the all-seasons look like:

I'll never use Toyo tires again and especially won't accept a new car equipped with them.

Those Toyos are done with on the outside too. I think there are only a few tenths of an inch diff btw the inside and outside from the pic. The snows are also wearing faster on the inside, but b/c they are wearing down slower, you aren't really seeing it. Get a tread depth guage and check - you'll see there is a sleight difference.

Yea the inside of those snow tires look slightly more worn.

I wonder if it's worth spending $80 mid life to remount and rebalance tires so that the outside becomes the inside. Of course this is only possible with symmetric and directional tires.

Our 08GT wore out the original Toyos in 15k miles of mostly city with lots of hills, turns and less than perfect roads ( but no winter use, I have snow tires for that). They did wear evenly, but they wore out fast. Replaced with Cooper RS3A, we will see.

Interesting idea to remount the directional snow tires 1/2 way through lifespan to even the wear; probably would be worth the cost and I'll examine the tread at the end of this winter. Sounds like a good reason to buy non-directional all-seasons (which I will be doing next spring).
Any suggestions on how to get some $ compensation out of Toyo would be welcome, thanks.
