Touchy Steering

Has anyone noticed their steering to be really touchy. It seems like if there is any kind of rut or bump in the pavement, it really makes the CX-7 pull to oneside or the other. I have never really noticed this on my other cars. In fact sometimes when braking it will pull real bad and you had better be holding on to the steering wheel. But if the pavement is perfectly smooth, I can't make it happen. Any ideas?

Hmm?

I have'nt notised that, my Cx7 runs smoothly - without any twiching. (10)
Do you run stock rims and tyres?
I guess if you run 20 or 22 inch wheels with low profile rubber that twiching is inevitable (scratch)

It depends on what you've driven previously... for ME... it does seem more "precise"... or it feels like it really translates the road to your hands. I am finding this to be a good thing... and frankly, kinda fun.

It definately is affected by road curvature and surface... but again... I now feel as if I "feel" the road more accurately. I don't know if this will help in poor driving conditions and allow you to adjust your driving. I know with my old car, it was all-power-steering and you felt none of the road, but you also didn't feel bad road conditions until you saw either the TractionControl light kick-on, or felt the ABS kick-in.

I really LIKE how the CX-7 feels now... took a week or two to get used to it.

My RX 8 was a little bit like that....it's feeling the road more...a sportier suspension will do that. I haven't noticed it in my CX 7 yet though. Maybe I am used to it?? If it's real bad have them check it and maybe it needs an alignment for some reason or the steering wheel is off a bit....I have heard of that before. Hope it gets better for you! I love how mine drives!!

Stay out of the drainage culvert. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Ours tracks steady as all get out, none of what you describe, just solid feedback. They have been doing a lot of resurfacing here in NY lately and I have been surprised how well this car handles even those uneven transitions at speed. Have it checked out by someone you trust for alignment.

Only happens on certian crappy streches of I-5 for me. Damn ruts will make anything pull.

I personally like the feedback and sensitivity you get in the steering.

Be sure your tire pressures are correct and you'll be alright.

It is called feedback...

Suspensions setup to handle better will be firmer and require less steering input while providing feedback to you via the wheel..This allows you to know what your wheels are doing.

The steering of the CX is very good by my standards... It is more like my WS-6 Trans Am had. Not vague like many passenger boxes...

It will bump steer if you hit a good bump with the rear tires when turning tight. Nothing nasty. Quite similar to my wifes newbeetle.

If you are a lazy driver with sloppy steering habits you can find yourself having problems when the car reacts to every little input you put into the steering wheel. Even those you were unaware you are used to doing on other vehicles with sloppier steering..

If you were not looking for a sportier handling vehicle why did you pick the CX?

I noticed that to. but guess what. Its tires! As they wear the touchyness goes slowly away. I have 15k on mine now and its a whole lot less touchy than when new. I can hardly wait til they wear out and get some good ones.

Steering is my #1 favorite thing in this car. The weight and precision in the wheel is just about better than anything out there right now. #2 fav thing, r the breaks, u cant ask for more linear and precise breaking & steering in a vehicle, ill put the 7 against many other types of cars out there today.

the mazda 6 v6 loaner i had felt like a BOAT compared to the precision and feel of the 7.

The feedback on the CX7 is awesome!(rockon)

Driving the CX7 doesn't seem like such a downgrade from the Evo.
