Touch-up Paint/Broken Window!

:
2021 Acura RDX
Hey guys!

I have a 2017 GT Snow Flake Pearl. I ordered some touch-up paint for rock chips, but I'm worried how well it will match my current paint. Has anyone else used Mazda's paint? If so, how did it match?

How many rock chips do you all have? I found what I think is a tiny one.

Also, as we speak, my car has just been dropped off at mazda. I rolled my window down last night
and then it wouldn't roll back up. I could hear it mkinf noise trying to go up, but it wouldn't (probabl the regulator) 200 miles on the car! Ugh! Are window problems common on the Mazda's?

I'd say your window motor is a lemon, or it got knocked off the track somehow or something. It's not an issue I hear about much. Now, old GM and Ford window motors on the other hand from the 90's...

As to the rock chips, wrap the car or deal with it, IMO. Pearl is an absolute nightmare to paintmatch. Even my Mazda blue sucks for paint match using the touch-up pen, but I don't care. I only want to keep the cheap metal from rusting, which it will instantly do once the paint is chipped. The galvanizing either sucks, or I'm just not used to cars that have cheap body panels, as all my other cars were carbon fiber, fiberglass/SMC, or aluminum, except my Jeep, and Chrysler paint is actually very good compared to Mazda, regarding toughness.

As a rule, Japanese paint is the most vibrant, and absolutely the most fragile. My Infiniti and Nissan had issues here, too, but I don't remember them rusting like my Mazda.

Like you, I don't want it to rust.

I have at least a dozen rock chips on my hood, lol. Unlike Uno there, I've had no rusting issues as a result at all.

I have yet to try touching it up. One of these days I'll get off my lazy ass and do it.

Truth is, Mazda paint is very, very thin.

Jman, I think the Mazda gods are rewarding you for making so many wonderful threads. Free coffee on Mazda's dime.

The new water based paints being used now are not as resilient to chips. However the primer coating on the Mazda's seem to be very strong, so any chips to the paint still leave a primer surface so there is no rust.

Well, you would think that Mazda touch up paint would match Mazda paint?

I miss the good old days when every new Mazda would come with one of these in the glove box...

Hah, I wish. Bare metal and rust every single chip.

Our fleet of company cars was huge back in the 80s and they were nearly all peppered with stone chips and rust. All the vulnerable panels on a CX-5 are galvanised or treated and modern paint is phenomenal when you think about it. Unlike the metal or black bumpers of older cars, we now have highly finished body coloured bumpers. You can bend those bumpers quite a long way and in either very cold or very high temperatures and they don't crack. Our roads get dressed with small clippings every year and mine has been hammered with hundreds of small basalt chippings and so far nothing. I'm quite sure the paint is better than it's ever been.

We told you not to take your new CX-5 to the car wash didn't we? First the wheel gets buggered up now your window and paint. What's next?

Is this the same guy? LOL

Sure, is STUD!! You tell me what's next... You've owned yours longer than me.

Rim is being fixed for $100 - no biggie

Window motor was replaced under warranty.

Paint chips - none as of yet, but I do a ton of highway driving, so I'd like to get some in advance.

So, don't get your underoos in a bundle, Concunt.

I'd like to pick up some touch up paint myself. mazda paint is very cheap. Anyways, my wife just got touch up paint for her Elantra Gt and the touch up pen was very nice. Even had a clear coat part of it. Last touch up paint I bought was for my Mustang GT. Just had the pen and fine brush. I wonder if Mazdas has the clear coat included like Hyundais.
