Torque Wrench

if i need a good one, i just go to autozone and rent one for 155 bucks. then they give every penny back when you return it.
ASDHGASAJJ!@$&!@

How much are these fux0rs to buy?!

i think 155 bucks. you pay ahead for the wrench in case you never bring it back...i know it sucks to need to have that money to front, but its worth it if you need a wrench and need to be sure its calibrated. normally i get the money back in my account within 3 days.

I have a Sears Craftsman torque wrench, 3/8" drive, 5-80 ft/lbs. (also reads N/m), catalog no.44596. It costs $90 and it's well worth it.

According to the FSM, the torque setting for the lug nuts is 66-86 ft/lbs (89-117 N/m)

There will always be varying opionions on this subject, but for the amount of money we spend on our cars to "improve" or maintain the performance of our cars....every item on the car should be torqued accordingly.

Agreed we are not all made of money....plenty of other things in life that demend our cash, but its the type of investment that you should have in your tool kit.

well it is situational, my dad has worked in the auto industry as a mechanic/tech for almost 30 yrs now, I have access to probably well over a 1000 parts I know of, lol, and I can always "borrow" what I dont have from the jaguar test facility he works at.

That being said for the strut bar brace I just hand tighten as much as I can without feeling like I am making it a b**** to get back off, mostly because all you want with this is an assured tight attatchment to both towers so it does actually tie them together and make the chassis stiffer, some bars attatch to the firewall also.

All bolt that go into any part of the engine including valve cover and anything needs to be done with a torque wrench. the 2 I use most are snap-on ones, 1 goes from 5lb/ft to 100+ and the other starts at 15. Also have an impact I can hook to our compresser that I can set the lb/ft on also, rarely use it though(except for lug nuts)

And for that I only use it ont he lug nuts cause it is an impact and makes the job go hella quicker.

All trannie and suspension bolts should be done with torque wrench also.

hmmmm. I need to check my valve cover, wonder if since I put it back on after painting and the gasket has had time to heat and cool a few times now it makes any difference.

we'll see tomorrow morning .

do we need another person to say a torque wrench is needed? ok.....yes it is needed hehehe.

a point which everyone has failed to mention especially around modern engines like ours is that the head is aluminium....ie soft. too much torque and you'll strip the thread in the engine.....big no no.

dont forget to check ebay for torque wrenches. i got mine for $55aud - that's $38usd. works just fine...i know it's not as accurate as others, but if you aim in the middle of the recommended torque setting that way you'll be right.

Yeah, I've already broken two bolts in half by hand tightening them. Guess I need a torque wrench. :D

you guys need to quit brute forcing those tiny 6Mx1.0 bolts! if you don't have a torque wrench or don't want to use it, use a 1/4" drive wrench ONLY for those tiny bolts, and then get it just snug then 1/8 turn more... NO MORE

they have different sizes of wrenches for a reason ya know... bigger = more torque

damn maybe you need to (jerkit) some more so you quit breakin s***
I think it's actually from doing that too much.. I've developed stronger muscles in my right arm than my left... Oh well...
