Torque Steer!!

Hey guys, just got my speed 2 weeks ago. Had to wait five months. I don't know about you guys but my ms3 has got pretty strong torque steer. I just put the cold air intake in and when I'm taking a sharp turn and gasing through and out of the turn, I've noticed a lot of torque steer depending on how I'm holding the wheel, like if i'm holding the wheel at the top compared to the middle. I think the claim that mazda had virtually eliminated the torque steer is bs.

It does, and Mazda did do a good job, the primary cause for the torque steer your feeling is your boost is limited through the turn, so your gassing at a lower boost, and when your wheels get straight again it goes to full boost. I no longer have a problem with it, but it spooked my once or twice when I first got my MS3.

that's where high horsepower FWD has a disadvantage... trying to steer and power the wheels with 250-300hp creates lots of torque steer.

but i'm sure straight line power is awesome

If you've ever driven a FWD car with even 200HP and no limited slip, you'd know the torque steer in the MS3 is tamed incredibly well. Just hold the wheel tighter and anticipate it. The only way to 'eliminate' it is to shave off a couple hundred horsepower.

Worst part about the tq steer is when you are really trying to get going and you hit a little bump and get some hop. I have almost gotten out of my lane going around a slight corner and hitting a bump while flooring it in second. IMHO wheel hop is a lot more of a problem than tq steer in this car. This might just be me though since roads around here are in such terrible condition.

Is there anything you can mod to reduce wheel hop? Springs, shocks, braces, motor mounts?

My dad has a saab 9-3 viggen that i drove on occasion. a little over 250hp and loads of torque. no lsd, and when i punched that car in 2nd i almost hit a guard rail. The speed3 definitely impresses the s*** out of me when it comes to torque steer.

The Viggen was the first car that I really learned the meaning of torque steer on. (lol2)

Great car though. I was looking for one used before the ms3 came out.

My friend had an old MX6 with a little work done to it, and some times it would rip the wheel from your hands. With a little more time behind the wheel of the car you'll get used to it. Torque steer is just part of the fun :D
