Since I have an automatic I know that I'm in a slight disadvantage against manual cars. I know that I can put a torque converter in the car but I don't know much about a TC, how it works or if they make them for the P5. Can any one help me out?

What do you mean "put a torque converter on?"

All AT cars have a torque converter, it's part of the transmission. It is a liquid-filled disk that transfers power from the crank to the transmission, and acts as a "break" in the flow of power, like when you want to stop, but want the engine to run. If you tried to do that in a manual with the gear engaged, it would of course stall.
Here, instead of just being a jerk :D, how about a link to help you out:

Give it a read. Knowledge is power. :)

there are many advantages to driving an auto matic. i hate to say this so please people dont flame but.......... the srt-4 thats running this year with 800 hp is an automatic with MINOR upgrades including the stall speed of the converter.
anything can be made to perform it just takes money

Yeah, most drag racers use at's, they are more consistant, you just slam it up a gear insted of pressing the cluth shifting, and letting out the clutch, and running the risk of misshifting. however, anything else but drag racing, i would take an manual anyday

Thanks for the info. The reason I said "put on" is because i've seen on parts catalogs pictures of torque converters. I thought its was that part that did everthing.

Basically what you could do is send your TC off to a company that could "beef" it up and/or give it a higher stall speed (can't remember the popular company that has been mentioned a few times elsewhere on this forum). It would help a little, but would probably cost more than it's worth. If you wan't to close the gap btwn you and manual cars, your better off sticking to intake/exhaust upgrades, possibly cam upgrade, etc. Then when you start getting more power out of the engine (i.e. turbo) you could start looking into a "beefier" TC and it would be more worth while.

That's just my suggestion mind you. :)
