Tool Talk; Air-Compressors!!!

Does anyone in here have an air-compressor? (huh)

I am looking into purchasing one for maintaining air pressures in my tires and maybe operating an impact gun and/or air wrench.
I was looking at a Craftsman 1HP 5 Gallon air-compressor; is that enough capacity for inflating tires and using the above tools? I see they offer 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 Gal, etc... Is there a minimum capacity I should be looking for?

Thanks for the help!! (2thumbs)

I'll get the information from a buddy who has one. We have used it a few times with both our cars, and it is a major help. Makes very quick work of everything we've needed to to.

if you want to run an impact gun the ones you have listed will work but will be very effecient. I used one that size on a die grinder and it ran constantly for several hours as the grinder was using more pressure/air than the motor and tank could handle. I had to keep waiting on it to fill. for the $ i would buy one that's a little larger in case you want to use diff tools besides an impact gun.

I have a 17 gallon 5 hp Husky model which fits the bill for most applications. It's on wheels so it's semi portable and can handle everything from filling tires to impact wrenches and such.

The horsepower of the motor is more important than the size of the tank. The tank allows some consumption of air before the motor starts up, but it is the motor that needs to keep up with the tools you use.

I have owned multiple compressors through the years and the one thing I can say is to buy the most compressor you can afford. Once you start using air tools you will start accumulating more. I use mine for the car, woodworking, you name it. If you have to compromise, go with the advice above, but I recommend the biggest, most powerful unit you can convince your wife to let you buy. (kiss) Eventually you will use the capacity.

I would say 20 gallon min and highest horsepower as pointed out. 5HP/30 gallon is a nice setup. If you can go with a vertical, you could get a 60-80 gallon monster! You also need to remember that the higher power, larger the capacity, the more juice you will need ( IE: 220/v )

moved to off topic for more views and in reality the proper place to post this type of thread

I have a 33 Gal Craftsman compressor. Its made do be able to use most automotive air tools very well.

If you look at the air compressors from craftsman, it gives you a list of what and how well it can be used w/ certain air tools.

Let me suggest the Craftsman 125 psi, 3 gallon tank unit. Its perfect for inflating tires and easy to carry. Should you need to run a framer nail gun or impact gun it won't be a problem. I have had mine for a few years now and its proven to be versatile as well as practicle. $99.99 when its on sale.

5hp 30 Gallon craftsmen.

turns on every now and then. Just remeber with a small tank the compresser will turn on more, and they can be loud.

Sorry, I didn't know where to post. I didn't see a tool section...

Thanks.

its not that there is a tool section its that the 3 section is only usually visited by 3 owners and its not really for tool talk off topic is viewed by most of the forum and is open for any kind of talk....
