Took the wife to look at the Mazda6...

and she heads rite over to the p5!! WTF!?
She tells me to research the 6 and I cram all the info I could get about the 6 into my head, and she goes and does this. I know nothing about the p5...don't know about price, what bells and whistles it comes with...etc. So we test drive it. She drives it like a normal daily drivin car, but when I get in, I punch it( i know, i'm not supposed to do it, but i just wanted to see how responsive the power was, wasn't too impressed, but hey...it's only a 2.0 ) So i ask the dealer guy how the autoshift thing works, and I try it. I take it up close to red line once in 3rd and in 4th.
Not too bad really. Ok guys, I hope I didn't do long term damage to it did I? Cause this was the one my wife wanted. Well, we went around this really curvy road...and i'm IMPRESSED!! Being as the car handles GREAT in stock form. Well, after we pull up into the dealership, I smell something like burnt rubber, so I pop open the hood and the smell is coming from the engine. I ask the salesman and he says its just the cat breakin in and it'll do that for at least the first 200 miles. Is this true?! I ask him if this happens on all new cars and he says it happens with the mazdas and chevys that they sell. Well, he gives us a price of $16,635 for the p5 plus these options:
4-spd sport-auto
16 inch polished wheels
moonroof/6cd changer
abs/side air bag package
He also said if my wife brings in her College Degree certificate thingy, that they will give us an aditional $500 off.
And hopefully we will get the 4.9 apr for 48 months.
Please any input is appreciated. And any smack talk about me revvin it too high too are welcomed :D

nah, you should be fine - I have an ES that I have had since October, same Tranny - I usually leave it in Auto mode since - without a clutch, whats the point. However, every once in a while - I decide I want to have some fun, and I flip the stick to the right and bang out the gears - the rev limiter seems to come in around 7200rpm. Redline is 6500rpm, so they do give you a little bit of leeway.

Incidentally, if you really wanna scare yourself, try redlining it in reverse - then shift to reverse and cut the wheel and give the emergency brake a quick pull - as soon as the front wheels start to slip - put the e-brake back down and get ready to shift into drive.

The salesman showed me how to do it on the test drive when I bought my car - incidentally - we did that in a differint car than the one I bought.
I've only done it a few times in my car - but it's pretty ******* fun in an open parking lot.

I've had my 2002.5 ES Since October, and I have almost 17,000 miles on it. Have not had a single problem yet.

The P5 has the same suspension as the ES except for the Strut Tower Bar. They are only $100 - so eventually I'll buy one, just haven't felt the need yet.

Feel free to tell me how much Dunlop tires should not be subjected to such abuse.

Cybspur - you got it for $16.5k including those options?Damn good price, if ya did!

As for smell, yeah. remember:
New Brakes
New clutch, new engine, new catalytic convertor
new muffler (and it's packing)

etc.....

All that stuff has to break-in, and new cars stink externally for the first few miles. I also remember what I learned in the Harley world - never subject a new engine to extended running at a constant RPM under 500 miles on the odo. Try to keep it moving around. I just drove 30-something home, and was going between 60-80, fluctuating slowly, to not keep the engine at a constant RPM.

Then again, everyone has break-in opinions.!

Well, we're gonna get it for about $16k. It's just that we went a bit late today, they ran both our credits thru, and said that we had good credit, but we hadn't been on the federal ( insert something here ) for that long. So we'll have to wait till monday morning to see what kinda APR we gonna get. The sales guy kept saying we'll qualify for 4.9%. How high was yalls APR? He told me my credit score is like 700+...don't know if thats good or not. Well the wife is really excited about it. I'm just ok...I guess. Yeah, trading in my '01 s10 for it...we gotta little one rollin around now :D
Well thanks for ur input guys!!

I got a 4.5% through Mazda Credit for 60 mos.

From what I've been told, a beacon over 700 is in the top 1 percent (Mine was a 743). There was an older guy in there also. They left his credit report on the sales desk, and the dud ehad an 812! I've never even SEEN that before, much less anything over 800!!!

4.9%?????

Are you crazy?

In Canada it's 1.9% for 36 MONTHS!

... and what options? 16" alloys and abs are STANDARD in Canada
and should be in the states.

I got mine for $21000 + taxes With those options and that's in Canadian Dollars... I think you got jipped buddy.

Sometimes the higher rate is due to a credit rating that is not crystal clear or not enough credit in the past. You therefore pay more because of the banks increased risk of taking you on as a customer.

I just bought a new ES Protege 2003 for about $14000 after taxes and title, 12,800 before. Sticker price was $19,000. I got hella discounts and incentives

1.9% for 36 mos. is fine - but I didn't WANT 36 mos., I wanted 60 MOS. longer terms = higher rates. 4.9% over 60 mos. is pretty good right now, and I did well at 4.5% over 60 mos.

Oh! One more thing. CAD$21000 is US$15218. He also had LOT more options, so another grand is reasonable. Are you reading the posts ALL the way through? He also got (in US dollars):

Sport AT invoice:$810 MSRP: $900
Moonroof/CD Changer invoice:$566 MSRP: $690
16" POLISHED (not standard) Alloys Invoice:$400 MSRP:$500

Even at invoice, those additional options cost $1776, 15218+1776 totalling to US$16994, and he paid US$16635.

Numbers look OK to me. He didn't get jipped, he just got a much more optioned care than you did. Can't compare apples to oranges.

I totally agree. For a stacked car like you are getting that is a good price. Plus the sport shifter makes life a little more interesting.

:D

I'm loving mine!! Haven't even crossed 100 miles yet! Raining like a sumbitch here (stopped a little while ago) and I don't wanna risk my new baby with these idiotic S. Florida rain drivers. Here, when it starts raining, people forget how to drive. Freeway center-medians get full of cars from idiots sliding off the road, etc...

Cyb? Ya got a good deal. Don't EVEN think twice about it. Period.

Maybe it's a southern thing but here in KY they only know how to drive when the roads are dry and even then it is sketchy. Just be glad you don't get snow. When it snows here we get the AWD people going like 65 on the highway. After the accident they don't understand why they couldn't stop :wtf:. People are stupid.

Oh! But we get the SAME thing...drivers think AWD/Traction Control/ABS can reverse the laws of physics....uh, HELLO?

Morons...some whouldn't be allowed near a dang 10-speed bicycle!

LOL! You're right a ten speed might be pushing it... We could get them a big wheel. /members/Phutcherso/bigwheel.jpg

I took the $1750 rebate over the 0% deal, big time.

Phutcherso:
Heh! Nice pic! Although, I'd prefer a smaller front wheel for them, to limit the top speed :D

I got mine in Feb and paid $16.8 with 0% for five years.

We were deciding between the Dodge SRT-4, Matrix with the 6 speed stick, WRX, Lancer EVO or the MAZDASPEED.

Found the MP5 on the lot and haggled for a couple of hours and drove out with a new car.

During the test drive I lit up the tires and chirped them into second. (good selling point) It handles as good as my IROC-Z if not better.

(Well I drove the car home because my wife hadn't driven a stick in several years and didn't want to stall it on the lot.)

I was expecting to pay over 20 grand for a car and got this one for less. We're happy with it.

Later,

Bill

Where'd ya get the seat covers/steering wheels cover/Floor mat set? Nice setup. Need seat covers to protect my leather, and floormats to not ruin the OEM ones.

I got mine at Checker Auto. A friend works there and "HE" gets a discount. I say he because he bought them for me with my money and his discount.

Other wise you can get them from PEPBOYS or Checker on line.
They come in red, gray and the blue that I have.

The pictures on my page don't do it justice. It looks much better in person.

Some people think they look to "ricey"(rice)

Thanks,
We like the way it looks too.
