Sorry, a bit off topic. I drove a Seat Leon eco diesel thing last week (the worst car I have ever driven by a long way) which had a Tom Tom system. I thought it was crap compared to BMW HD sat nav. No detail when zooming out, auto zooms back in, plots the wrong route, poor graphics, had incorrect road details..........I could go on. I hope this is not the same unti that the CX-5 will use?
lol. That sounds like the one in the CX-5. No details when zooming out (and not much when zoomed in. It auto-zooms, but I did find out how to disable that under advanced settings. Now I get to choose whatever poor amount of detail I want. Graphics suck for the most part. The route planning is ok, but not great. I find that re-routing is a problem, it seems to try to get me back on the original route even if staying on the new route is better. I have to cancel the route and re-start a new one.
The CX-5 unit has 2 major issues. It supports traffic data, but for some reason, the traffic information disappears from time to time and the only thing that can get it back is pulling the SD card, waiting 1 minute, then re-inserting it. And that doesn't always work. This is very dangerous. I drove into a major traffic jam recently on 95 as I assumed traffic was part of the unit's planning on my route.
The second major problem I encountered today. As I was driving around Washington DC, which I am only somewhat familiar with the roads and traffic is horrible, my CX-5 Nav decided to freeze up! It totally locked up, and it was still displaying a static image. I missed my highway ramp and almost got in an accident. I pulled over, shut off the car, waited about 15 seconds and restarted. At that point, nav totally stopped working. Pressing nav button did nothing. I just used my phone's nav. Once I got home I turned the car off for a few minutes, came back, and started it up. The nav did come back, initializing from the start.
This is crazy. I am so disappointed. I plan to trade my car in very soon. Mazda does such a half assed job with their cars, I won't ever trust them again. Lost me as a customer. I know there isn't a lot of love for MyFord Touch, but at least Ford acknowledges the issues and has issued multiple patches with another one coming in August. Mazda has sort of acknowledged the issue and sort of said they might fix it. I don't have a lot of hope. I just have a lot of hate for Mazda now.
