To the turbo techs

hey people, i have a question, i know spoolin use the 16g and t3 set-up and mazdaspeed using the t25, the question is is the 20g suitable for our car or is the turbo too big?

It all depends on what kind of power you want (top-end vs low-end) and how much boost you plan on running (5-7psi vs 8-10). My thoughts is that at 5-7, you'll be ok, but who knows. I'm thinking that the 20g is equivalent to a t3/t4 at .82 Exhaust Housing A/R.......translation ------->Top-End Turbo.:D

i want both, will i get a long lag time, and i was doing alot of reading, i want to wait for the wiseco piston and cowler rods, then smack in the turbo w/greddy e-manage engine management or an haltech. My main concern is the tranny, will it hold that amout of boost eg:8-10psi?

A mitsu 20g is tooo big. If you want a big mitsu unit you should go with an 18g setup that should do nicley. Kinda comprable to a t3/t4 .48 ar 50 trim compressor

The turbo can never be too big. A guy around me is rigging his new setup with a T4 on his GSXR.

He is insane!
He will spool that thing maybe 200 rpm just shy of redline

You may know of him Spoolin he had the bike that was had several write ups as one of the fastest bikes. It been mentioned a few times on this board. Eric Paquette. His last bike only dynoed to 0ver 400 HP before exploding. I think his best was over 500.

If you go with any kind of engine management, you should go with Haltech, because if you are going to build your engine for later that would be a better buy. Also if you go with GREDDY emanage you will wait an eternity for it to get to you, just ask spoolin how long it takes. I think that GREDDY is running a circus. (guns) GREDDY I like the product but the customer service sucks.

i just got off the phone w/ bullish motorsport, which i select to be my installer/tuner. They suggest i should go w/ a 8.5.1 piston, rods and i should go for the t 3/4 setup. what do my techs have to say about it b/c i'm kinda new to mazda proformance?

I would say go for it, if you are going to go ahead and build the engine, and run 10-15 PSI that will definatly be fast. I would also go for a 3 angle valve job. Also you need to watch out foer your tranny. Thats something that is unpredictable on our cars, because no one has really ran up to 15 psi. GOOD LUCK

My first tranny blew up at 0 psi :)

Then again I did learn to drive on it...

But I've heard of several cases of our trannies just going out...As much a I'd love to run 15psi I'll probably be worried about it at 8 or 10...

My concern is the tranny too. Bullish is going to do some R&D on my tranny to see where they have to build to make it handle power increase.

Blue, If you put some $ into R&D for our trannys you'd be my hero. :-)

Advice: go with a straight t3 at biggest. Especially in NYC. You don't wanna spool @ 4K.

I have heard that if you are into street racing, it is best that you don't go over 15 psi. It is just pointless, it would take to long to spool. By the time you would spool at 18-20 psi. the cops will be after you by then. Like I said good luck
