To Miata or not to Miata?

I might have a chance to pick up a 1994 Miata on the cheap and I wanted some opinions about which would be more fun to track: a 1994 Miata or my 2009 MS3. I don't care TOO much about placing well, I just want to have some fun.

Hey Bro, if you are looking for the best little track car, you ABSOLUTELY cannot beat a Miata, they are light and very agile, they are perfect. I was going to do the same thing but wife said HELL NO! (dark)

if youre picking up the miata in addition to the MS3 then track the miata. that way that gets beat on and your Ms3 will still be a DD

I'm going to look at it this Saturday. The seller has two of them, so my buddy and I are planning on each getting one because he'll discount them if they're purchased together.

I have dibs on a black one with a hardtop, needs rear brakes installed and probably a new paint job, for $2k. My buddy is going to consider a purple one with 17" oz wheels that's driving for $3k. Supposedly they both have new running gear installed less than 1k miles ago with limited-slip diffs, spec roll bars, and both are 1994s with 1.8L engines. Assuming there's no big SNAFU with either it seems like a reasonably good deal.

that actually doesnt do it for me... too over the top

I agree. I like the look of a stuffed tire or properly sized tire over something that's stretched. The fixed headlights look nice though.

If this doesn't make you want a miata, nothing will.

Miatas make for an awesome track toy.

I was tired of tracking my DD and worrying about stuffing into a tirewall or having someone bump me. Purchased the Miata and I couldn't think of owning any other vehicle for what I paid.

i track my miata often and its a blast. it will teach you a thing or two about carrying momentum. its easy on tires. the tires size is popular and affordable. upgraded brake pads are a must and a set of springs really help too.

i would never want to put bigger wheels on it though. i think it would really sap power.
