To Build "The Bullet Proof" G15M-R...

hey mate. my mate is running 267kws at the wheels on a rebuilt g series gearbox. and he is just running a par straight cut third gear, 626 5th gear and a welded mazdaspeed lsd... has so 4 about 3 years now.... and still goin strong :)

there is some youtube vids of his drags if ur interested

Got a link to the video?

par makes billet cups to reinforce the case. im going to go with straight cut 1-3 and syncromesh 4 and 5 needle bearings etc...you can mix and match and build it how you like. you have to have the quafe with PAR though if i recall correctly but hell, if your gonna spend 3k plus on a trans, you may as well get the best diff you can buy.

If I read you correctly, you want to mesh a straight cut gear with a helical on 3rd and 4th? 1st is cut into the input and meshes with second. 3rd and 4th mesh together and 5th is all by itself. So you wouldn't be able to do that. Unless I am reading you wrong....

I don't understand the inside of transmissions so I'm prob wrong sig. What would I be able to do though?

Synchromesh simply means it uses synchros which could be straight cut gears like I have or helical cut (I don't believe they make these any more except possibly 5th)

A dogbox has no synchros and you have to rev-match upshifts and downshifts...basically track only.

As far as synchromesh straight cut being too loud...that is not the case at all no more so than the whine of a supercharger. PAR brags on their gears being much quieter than others due to tighter tolerances and I believe it.

Also 3rd and 4th can be independently different. The tranny is layed out with an Input gear and pinion gear that mesh together for each gear. Only restraint is 1st and second is cut into the input shaft

its all good. i havent done my homework on transmissions yet lol. i just know our stock ones kinda suck and once i get that snail...im gonna have to build mine. figure ill start researching now and see what people who are running the PAR have to say. on that note...shane, good/bad of par gearset?

Here is the pricing I got from Gerard at PAR:

1st~4th synchromesh engagement straight cut gearsets $2,960 AUD
Optional billet crown wheel & pinion shaft - $1,000 AUD
Optional billet bearing reinforcement cups - $650 AUD
Needle roller and/or double synchro versions are available as a no cost option

i have no clue what that stuff is other than the gears, but ill be getting it next spring lol. im looking to push 375-400hp at the track and rather not be doing trans swaps every time.

The optional stuff is for what PAR recommends over 350hp. They say if you are under 350 that 3rd and 4th are only needed. I think others on this forum would definitely disagree and I am sure they would say PAR is too optimistic in our weak ass tranny's lol. They claim the final drive is for 450+. The reason why I quote PAR is because I have no experience with a blown tranny yet. Mine has over 100,000 miles with a welded MSP LSD. I run over 18psi, but very cautiously and never bang the gears. I also run Valvoline 80/90 with shock proof tranny oil.

I'm trying to find out if Magnus Motorsports stocks the Mazda gearsets. Nicer to have a supplier closer to home.

I ran the Spec 3+ in my car, could not handle hard launches without slipping. I'll be going to a clutchmasters sprung 6 puck.

As far as PAR straight cut gear noise is concerned its not bad at all. I drove in Dana's (Kooldino) car and honestly unless you are a car guy/girl who knows what straight cut gears are you couldn't notice. You can definitely hear the gears, but they are not obnoxiously loud.

Magnus just orders from PAR. Only advantage in ordering from them (Magnus) is they will do the brokerage and just charge GST (for Canadian BC residents).
