TMIC + SRI vs. FMIC Kit

O.K. so I'm convinced that the first engine mods I'll need are those to make it breathe better, etc...

So I'm thinking intake and IC first, then exh.

So looking at the very nifty Corksport FMIC kit - very clean look, but spendy and I'd like to keep things cheap. (yah, I know speed costs money, but I want bang for the buck).

So corksport fmic vs. a 3.25" tmic and sri. Cost diff is ~$300 which will save me a few more bux for other goodies like CDFP, gauges, bpv or whatever...

So - force feeding gurus - is the corksport kit worth the extra money (and extra hours lying on a concrete floor on my back installing the sucker)??

Thanks guys and this forum is very helpful.

I would go Cobb CAI first, TBE second... the gains of a TBE are more than a tmic/fmic & the 3.5 ETS TMIC causes huge boost spikes in the cold with those other mods and feels a lot less then the 20hp they claim so I wouldn't get one until there is a tune to take advantage of it.

So I would go intake, TBE (or at least DP + MP cated.. CBE is optional) + Cobb AP before i touched a tmic or fmic. Tmic is also better for warranty problems as it can be changed in under 20min

Yeah, I'm waiting on an intercooler update as well. Cobb's is looking pretty promising(no cutting or removing stock parts except for one stupid pointless little tab) and its a bigger core than some from what Ive seen.I think its 24x3.5x7.8 or something like that. Definitely get turboback and cai first. much better. I know it'll be more expensive but you'll wanna get it eventually.
If you dont want to go full turboback now, get an intake and a downpipe... maybe the corksport and cobbs short ram, itlll only be like 475 plug any shipping or tax.
Corksport changed their price to 300 dollars supposedly :) you could also throw a racepipe on there for another 150.. not bad at all...

well, until you have actually upped your boost a lot, there's not really a point in switching to the FMIC, because all it's doing is adding waaaay more tubing, which causes turbo lag, since you now have to move a bunch more air in order to get up to pressure. the sri + 3.25" TMIC should hold you over very well for some time into the future...and at a much better price! (eek2)

So....

Heat soak aside - main advantage for FMIC is running a bigger turbo or goofy-high levels of boost??

I don't expect to ever run >18 psi if I ever even run >stock boost. So looks like TMIC is a better option and leaves $300 for other mods.

Yes??

yes, that is correct. keep in mind that heat soak isn't nearly as much of a big deal on the street. you will be constantly moving, so unless you get stuck at a light for a while, you won't have a chance to heat soak, since cool air will be constantly streaming in from the ram air.

Build your own fmic. :)

What are your plans for the car? Any track days in the future?
