Tires bulged :(

Hi everyone,

I installed new Kumho Ecsta ASX tires on my stock rims two months ago. Yesterday I hit a few bad potholes and one tires got punctured, while the back tire got a bulge on a side wall. My question to you: is this considered a road hazard or a poor quality tire? My tire shop said that it's typical of hitting a pothole and not a fault of the tire.

In my experience, hitting large potholes will damage your tires. I suppose it may be less likely with better quality/more expensive tires, but I'm not sure. I would say just be happy you're having to replace $50 tires, rather than $200 tires.

I work at a tire shop myself and just from experience we get people coming in all the time with these "bulges" on their tires and blame it on the tire for being junk or something along those lines. However, the first thing I ask them is if they have hit any potholes? More or less it's not the tire's fault lol

And to answer your question, it IS considered a road hazard. The belts have separated in the tire causing a MAJOR weakness in the sidewall. I would advise you not to drive on it as there is more chance for the tire to blowout when rounding a corner. Not very much fun I might add! Not to mention the rim will get destroyed haha You'll have to buy a new tire as this cannot be repaired :( sorry for the bad luck!

haha same here in NL they try to fill them but the salt just eats up the roads .. Craters everywhere .. I'm gonna start wearing a spacesuit lol

OMG you guys think you have it bad with potholes??? Don't come to province of Quebec, it's like afghanistan here...

+1.

It seems the the winter potholes started earlier this year.. it's gonna take ALOT of time to fix, if it ever gets done.
