Tire Review Thread

I`ve got the Ecsta 711s now in the stock size on stock rims on a stock ES. I`ve only had them for about 5,000 km but so far I like them. Decent wet traction, pretty damn good in the dry but they`re not very progressive at losing grip, you`ve got it and then you overcook it and you`re sliding. Also, mine don`t really squeal to warn you, just make a little sliding noise. Still, for $400 CDN it`s not bad so far.

Anyone tried the Michelin PS2? My cousin has these on his Acura CL-S and says they`re incredible. Any thoughts?

My dad had the PS2 on his IS300 and I must say, I didn't like the feel of them. They were a soft quiet tire but when it came down to true higher performance, the steering feel wasn't what I expected. Then my dad got the RE050A Pole positions just recently with the same size specs as the ones he got with michelin and I definitely prefer those over the PS2.

Anyways, my P5 has the pirelli's and I'm satisfied during most months until I have that 1-2 months of possible ice on the roads.

I know it's a bit of a thread revival, but I wanted to post a review here in hopes that we could get this thread going again. It helped me decide to buy these tires, so please, continue to post reviews here!

Tire: Hankook Ventus HR II

Size: 215/40/16

Driving Style: Aggressive/Daily Driven

Time/Miles on Tires: 1 year (approx 12,000 miles)

Category: High Performance All-Season

Pros: Price, size, performance. These tires are very inexpensive at $72 (discountiredirect.com) or $50 (onlinetires.com) each. They are also the only High Performance All-Season tire in this price range that comes in this size. I wanted stiffer sidewalls and more grip but could not afford to upgrade rims on my P5, so I purchased these tires for the extra girth. They will fit on stock P5 rims in this size, it just takes a lot of PSI to mount them. There are other choices in this size and in 215/45/16 if you are looking for a summer tire, but these are the only All-Seasons and they work great for me in Kentucky, where I only occassionally encounter an inch or so of snow.

I noticed an immediate difference in handling, acceleration and braking. I can launch the car much better now, and these tires in conjunction with the great brakes on the P5 mean I can stop very well. In my opinion, the best part about these tires is the handling. I can throw my P5 into a corner at a ridiculous speed and the car will not break loose. In a long, sweeping turn, they hold the road and don't squeal. They are also great for country road switchback driving (FUN!). These tires are still very sure-footed even after a year of hard driving, and I trust them implicitly.

The wet traction is very good, and when I do break the car loose in the wet, it is always predictable. I cannot recall sliding while coming to a quick stop in rain with these tires.

Cons: The tires got louder after about 5k miles, and they do not ride very smoothly. This is due in large part to the fact that they're so low profile. However, I don't think that the noise is more than would be expected for a cheaper, extremely low profile tire. The road noise and slightly harsher ride is a price well worth paying for the handling.

They are wearing well, and at this rate I expect to get 2 more years, maybe 20k more miles out of them, which I consider about average for my driving but some may consider a con.

Snow performance is not a con, but not really a pro either. They're adequate, but I haven't ever daily driven in snow before these tires, so I can't really fully comment on their capabilities. I do think that they are safe, but they're not a winter only tire, that's for sure.

Recommendation: If you're looking for a cheap upgrade in grip with some all-season capability, these are the tires for you. I would recommend them and hope to purchase another set when these wear out (if I don't upgrade my rims first!)

Tire: General Exclaim UHP

Size: 205/40/17

Category: UHP

Review: The first thing I noticed was the ride quality coming from potenza's. Great in the CA rain. Loads of tread. Performance; its there, but could be better. Damn cheap.

Recommend: Yes for spirited driving. No for the race track.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kuhmo 711's feathered easily on my 325i if alignment was not perfect and they were loud.
Yokohoma es100's were very smooth and predictable, but did not last for s*** on my 944s2, but I did take it on the race track, and I could not rotate due to the sizes.
BFGoodrich g-force sport: great all around tire for me!
Bridgestone Potenza 750: 205/40/17: a little loud. Great performance in dry cond. Lots of equivelant tires though for less price-unless on sale :).
Toyo Proxes 4: I agree; Stock P5 Dunlop's=LOL!

ran falken azenis on my p5

size: 215 45 17

Review: lets just say i bought another set for the evo 255 40 17, they last about 3/4 a year to a year depending on driving style but they're way worth it. even when cold they grip hard, but its when they warm up that they shine, the breakaway is smooth and predictable. Obviously the rain traction isnt the best but i find them adequate, and i dont drive fast in the rain anyways (even with AWD)

Recommend: For sure, for the all around performer (street, track, autox) Theres a reason you see them used at the track alot, IMO best $$ to performance ratio

NITTO NeoGen

size: 215x45x17 on stock MSP rims
category: Ultra high performance All season
miles: 10k+
price: 86$/ea shipped

review: cheapest in its class, better handling than michellin i had on priror, very good tread life even thought its rated for 280, excellent in wet + dry condition but lacking in snow even though its not bad at all imo, i've noticed less wheel spin.

Con: if your in a heavy snow area then these will only work for you off snow season

recommend: yes, these are very good especially for lowered cars holds very good.

BFGoodrich Gforce Sport

205/55/r16

Zrated all season

...what can i say, Ive had em for like 30k miles
Driven them very hard..and they are just awsome

Super grippy, very reliable in from what ive experienced, almost all weather

Ive got a friend that has em on his scuby and they offroad quite well too :D

But honestly they are great VERY solid feel to them and just fit the car imo.

Love em

Very much suggest buying a set of these at some point, not very expensive either and they fit the stock rims
