Tire question

This may seem like a stupid question, but is there something I'm missing when I take off a tire? I bought a 1997 Protege LX in February & I'm doing some work on it & need to get rid of the rust on the rims & repaint them black. The problem is, once the lug nuts are off, the tires won't come off.....Also, is there a reason why we have a hard time finding aftermarket parts for the 1997s?

hit the backside of the tire with a rubber mallot. My rear rims always get stuck.

Kick the tire as hard as you can.

It worked great....3 of the 4 were stuck.....
