tinting tail lights

recently had my windows tinted and now im thinking that my ES will look good with tinted tails.

whats the process for getting that done (same as when i did my windows?) or i heard of some kind of spray...
also, is it legal in NY or am i going to have something else to worry about?

I just used this on my bumper lights and really like the look. I have heard of others using it on their tails but not sure about the legal issues. As long as you don't go too dark you should be ok with the cops, but might not pass inspection. If you do go for the nite shades call some local tire shops. That is where I got mine and save myself the shipping.

Its not legal anywhere.
Just buy the rockblocker covers. Sprays look terrible. And niteshades has a terrible purple hue to it.

My nightshades works fine. It only gets purple for retards that dont cleacoat it..lol. I am tinting my tails this weekend. My turn signals in the fender are tinted and look great. Just get some nightshades and enjoy

those are two good ass perspectives (shade vs sun). been debating it cause it gets thrashed in threads but i have never heard anybody putting clear on it. makes sense.

Thanks...and thanks again to 'vindication' who suggested using the clear. I used the same as him - duplicolor clear engine enamel. Picked up a can for under $4 at Walmart.

As for VHT nightshades- let me interject some food for thought. - Not bashing anyone or any product. Just sharing knowledge

Not everyone can do a perfect job of getting it on smooth and glossy not to mention even. Side markers most black out,but with tail lights you cannot do that and getting it even can be a real bare. Actually in most cases people cannot do a perfect job.

RedHotP5 - I will say from the pics that is one of the better jobs that I have seen in recent past, but honestly you can tell they are painted and not perfect. No offense to you at all. Also doing a smaller area ie side marker versus a tail light are totally two different animals.

For those looking for a cheaper method then look at the nightshades. Just remember if you mess up or need/want to remove the paint, you have to use very harsh chemicals that are harmful to your lights. 99% of lights are made from polycarbonate lenses and can crack or fade with the use of checmicals such as laquer thinner, or brake cleaner.

Sure the side markers are cheap enough to replace, but what about removing if from your tails?? If they crack or fade it will be spendy.

Thanks! I will be the first to admit it isn't a perfect paint job but gave me the look I wanted. Personally I wouldn't attempt to paint my own tails. Too much area to worry about overspray and running, so for the tails I would def. go with the overlay....I was just throwing out pics so he could see the end result.
