About to get my MZ3i tinted, how dark should I go? In the state of Missouri I can't go lower than 35% on the passanger windows, and not allowed to tint front windshield =( Therefore how dark should I tint the back windows and back windshield??????

that blows fat man balls. I don't want to get them too dark, and can barely see at night lol. It sucks I got that ticket... I was hoping to start put stuff in and on my car. What have you done to your car lately?

I live in Springfield, MO. I've got 20% all around, and a 20% brow on the windshield. Police don't really give that big of a hoot. Only person I have ever had say anything about it was the Missouri State Highway Patrol officer that pulled me over on my way to columbia, and he just gave me a warning (with a HEFTY speeding ticket!(fuoops)). My buddy has a 08 Cadillac DTS With 5% all around, and 30% on the windshield (Its also on DUB 22" spinners) He drives all over Springfield and Memphis, TN without any trouble. Just some food for thought.

Old thread, I assume the OP got their windows tinted by now! But for future reference, it greatly depends on the law enforcement of the area you live in whether or not they are going to bother you about it.

Hey! I live in Long Island, New York. I tinted out my 3i, 20% all 4 windows and rear windshield. I've had it tinted for about 6 months, and I haven't had any police trouble with it yet. :)

I am curious about how shops are tinting the back windows on P5s. The last time I had a car tinted (1992), they pieced the rear. They did a good job, but the seam was visible. I have seen videos about various shrinking techniques and wondered if that is now the norm or do only high-end shops shrink the tint to fit. Any guidance and/or advice would be appreciated.

I don't know how the shop I went to did mine, but if there is a seam I can't find it and after 3 years there been no shrinkage. I may have gone to a "high-end" shop though I don't know.

Simulated Tint Job

I used a photoshop like tool to simulate 32% tint (GA limit). I am not sure if I got it light or dark enough, but I think I like it.

If you click the link in my signature I have 35% on my Speed3.

Thanks. That's a good looking 3.

I stopped by a local shop today and they told me they would use one piece. They also told me a price of $235 using SunTek film. I need to check around because that seems high, but it has been a while.

The shop I went to was around $200 or a little more. They used Llumar film.

It also depends on what you want to get out of the tint. If you just want darker then most metallized tints will work fine for you. If you want increased heat rejection then upgrade to a ceramic tint. They generally cost more (my cars were both ~$300 each) but the heat rejection is greatly improved. For instance the shop I used their 20% metallized blocked 50% of heat. Their 40% ceramic blocked 80%.

Yes, I was quoted $325 for ceramic. The 235 quote did not mention a specific tint, but I was assuming metallic. I have read that metallic tints can interfer with AM radio, GPS, other. I rarely listen to AM radio, but I would hate to lose the ability to save $90.

I think you should always just go as dark as you can. Personally I think it makes cars look badass and plus it keeps the heat out.

I went 5% on the back windows (hatch) and I must say it looks fantastic. Dark grey + black = happy camper

Finally got it tinted. It's not as dark as I would like, but it is the legal limit in GA (35% all around).
