Tint is illegal...oh well

I learned some valuable information about getting a ticket for tinted windows. I live in Michigan, where our tint laws are strict and it is illegal to have tint on the front windows (windshield and driver and passenger front side windows). I have 5% tint on everything except the windshield and I recently got pulled over for it. I've had tint on all my cars for the past 2 years and have never gotten a ticket till now. Anyways, after calling the police station to see what I had to do, I found out that I could
a) Pay to have the tint removed and have a cop inspect my car and sign it off
b) Simply mail in a receipt showing that I had my tint removed

So all I'm going to do is have my tint shop print up a receipt saying that I had my tint removed (no way in hell I'll actually have them take it off) and mail that in. Even better, I don't have to pay for tint removal or any fines.

Now I need to see if I can get a note from an optometrist so that I can have my license changed so that I can legally have my tint. Anyone know any place where I can get this?

not any state.. but there are quite a few states that it's illegal.. won't stop me though..

In California it is illegal to tint the driver and passenger windows. Only tint legal on these windows is the one from the factory.

DMV says otherwise...

you got pulled over for having 5% tint on your car? Thats barely even noticeable...
If he means 5% light transmission, that's actually really dark, like limo-dark actually. AFAIK, there are few-to-no states that allow 5% on the front side windows. I live in FL, which is pretty liberal on tint, and limits here are still 15% on the back, and 28% on the front sides.

all depends on where you live. I know people in parts of PA and MD who have gotten away with 5% all around for YEARS while people in other areas of the same states get hassled for 35%...although the legal limit in MD is 35% all around, if you put 35% tint on your windows a light meter will register somewhere around 25-30% b/c in stock form the glass doesnt have 100% light transmittance

its illegal to have it in the front everywhere actually (uhm)

This was posted a while back but since you're all talking about it--try clicking on the "Tint Online Demo" link:

And it really does matter how stricitly it's enforced in your area. In NJ it's illegal to have anything on the front windshield and sides, but my friend has 20% all around on his Jetta, and hasn't gotten pulled over in 2 years.

Its not illegal in Nevada. I had my old car tinted there 8 or 9 years ago. I went one shade darker on the front than was legal and they make you sign something saying they advised you what the maximum tint was and you ignored it.

try using vinyl tint, its removable so when you get pulled over you just peel it off. you can find it @ wallmart. i've been using it for a few years now, i put 20% vinyl over 35% professional and it brings me down to 7%.

installing and trimming takes some practice but it's easy.

MPV = Mobile Party Vehicle
ie. Big cargo van w/ couches, a DJ booth, and a mini bar all inside...

just kidding

MPV would be like an old (88) subaru GL wagon or any pickup truck. In CT these have to have Combination plates, but doesn't change the tint law. I don't mind the CT law, 35 on the sides anything on the back.
