We decided to get Mylo a friend.

We picked up an 8 week old Dogue De Bordeaux aka French Mastiff aka the big ole red dog from the 80's movie Turner & Hooch. My avatar pic is of Mylo @ 8 weeks when we got him. He weighed 4 pounds, Porter is 14 pounds!

We named him Porter and picked him up on Saturday afternoon.

Mylo's been super excited to have a brother/friend at home. They play pretty well together, though they get too excited sometimes and the play gets too rough and we gotta separate them.

He begins his "puppy discovery" class tonight, it's week 2 of a 4 week class then he's off to puppy beginner class, which Mylo has done 2 times and will be enrolled in a 3rd. On a bright note though, outside of class Mylo's attention and listening skills to what we've learned have gotten WAY better. He's even drastically improved in class, though he still gets excited at the site of other dogs and people.

At one point last night I had both dogs sitting for food on either side of me (sitting on the floor with them) paying attention to only me, which is a HUGE step forward for Mylo, especially with a puppy in the room.

Here are some pics of them together

Very cute pups you have there.
knowing a few people with bull mastiffs, within a year Mylo will start looking like a play toy for Porter. :) I cant believe how much those dogs eat. Truly amazing.

thanks!

Here are some new pics of Mylo and Porter from the last 2 weeks or so.

Mylo and Porter playing, I seemed to have caught Mylo in a Kujoesk pose, though he wasn't being mean at all, just playing.(from yesterday)

cool dogs, dave. training classes at an early age is a great idea, otherwise, porter will be 120+ lbs of uncontrollable destruction.

Thanks Jos3!

Yah, Mylo's in his 4th obedience class and Porter's already finished his first! they will both be in class for at least 2 years if not more. Even if they are obedient, the socialization of new dogs and new people will always be good for them.

my wife is training to be a dog trainer/behaviorist, and i have seen the difference that proper, positive reinforced training can have on a pup.

yah, our trainers use only positive reinforcement. It definitely does wonders!

Some large pics (1.3MB) I took with my cell today or Porter.

Just after I took these pics a utility guy came to the lot next to ours to mark the ground and Porter did not like him getting near his "house" and let out a very deep series of barks. Until now, I've only heard 5AM high pitched "I gotta pee/poop" barks from him. I actually laughed at the barks.
