ticking noise

I hear ticking on my MP3 as well. But mine comes from the back end of my car. It is not the sway bars because I already got the clunk fixed. I think it is near the exaust pipe near the rear right side of the car. It is driving me crazy...

A bit late...

I dunno if you've figured out the problem by this time, but if you're still interested, here's my summary.

Appararently, for some reason, the people with MP3's and P5's are having different problems. I have the same problem as a few other people here and I have a P5...I get a quick ticking noise when my car is at idle, and I only NOTICED it after I put in my intake, but maybe that's because I didn't spend much time under the hood before that. It naturally is more heard when I pop my hood, and to me it sounds like it's coming from the pulley area, if that helps.

I also have heard of people of every car with this engine but especially the P5, getting weird noises when their engine is cold. Apparently this engine has a history of that...even I hear a pretty dramatic change of tone from my intake and exhaust after the engine warms up..and its definately better sounding when its warm :)

I am still going to put money on that it is the carbon canister pump that was one most of your stock intakes. It looks like a little solenoid but it is a pump and it isn't quiet at all.

Well it still does it and I just got my oil changed and it sounds like it is getting louder.

I noticed it does it when the engine is hot, but I pop the hood and you can not hear it, only from inside to car. and it is not the AC, it has no effect on the noise.

After the engine is hot it starts ticking for about 10-20 seconds or so, and then it stops, then starts, etc.

Yes, I do have an intake and I have noticed it after i installed it
it is custom built buy a friend of mine and it more a ram air than cold.

I am going to try to get a sound clip of it, thanks for all the help!!!

Anymore suggestions?????????????

I know that this is an old thread but my car started the same ticking sound! As most of you know, I blew my first motor and put in another motor. My first motor never had this ticking but now this motor all of a sudden started this ticking sound that is getting louder. It is exactly like z585 described. Let me know if anyone figured out what it was. It is very irritating and would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem!

How much did that cost you and where did you get the parts? This sucks cause this is a more or less new motor and my old motor didn't make this noise. So basiclly your saying that I will have to take my motor back out AGAIN and change the crank and rods!? This sucks ass!!!!!

fixed mine

I figured out that it was the solenoid (how ever ya spell it) when it kicked on it vibrated against my firewall, thus making the sound. You can actually hold it when it turns on an feel the power. sorry, so I just relocated it and wa-la the sound is gone.
good luck!

Which solenoid would you be talking about. I'll go check tomorrow morning! Thanks!

Dave

The one that uses the original intake as a brace. It stuck in the original intake pretty close to the trottle body. It has two hoses coming into it and its on a gold colored bracket.

I was accually refering to the BEARINGS on the rods and crankshaft. It is expensive to have it done by a shop.

I think I know what you're describing here (the solenoid). Post pics anyway!

i know this is an old thread but mine has always ticked when cold but stops when it warms up. now it ticks a lot on accelleration between 3000 and 4000rpm. it does not tick on decel. i had the oil changed yesterday and i just noticed the sound last night. the oil is full. it sounds like it is coming from the top of the motor closest to the pulley side. anyone ever figure this out???????
