Ticking noise

Just got My MSP this past Saturday,

Someone answer the question to this noise

I heard it's something with the VICs?

Thanks

My SP20 (Protege5) makes this exacts same noise. A friend reckons that it's the valve clearance (I'm not convinced), I have checked this and there are a few that are a little out of spec but have not had time to get replacement shims organised to fix them up.

When I get around to it I will check back here and let you know results.

i actually talked to him the other day, the mazda dealer said bad injectors, but the dealer he took it to doesnt even sell any mazdaspeed vehicles b/c they're not authorized so idk

Add a quart of lucas motor oil stabilizer in place of one quart of oil on your next oil change. should tone it down.

mine makes that sound, but way way more quiet.

Mine also, I asked the dealer about the sound before I shipped the car home and he told me it was the injectors and the sound was normal.

Mine is almost this loud and I'm going to replace mine with some lower milage ones soon anyway because I'm having other issues with my engine, I'll let you know if the sound changes on mine.

Hi

Sorry about the delay. I changed them out today.
I changed out my 43k miles injectors with a 4.500 miles set bought on the f/s section on this forum.

My injector noise actually did get toned down, but the sound is excactly the same in terms of how it sounds.

Unfortunately I don't have an A/F gauge so I can't tell you if there was any difference there. My fuel cut problems is still there but it seems to be a little less problems @ higher RPMs.
Sorry I can't tell you more exact if there was a real differene or not because I still haven't resolved my other engine issues yet.

Well, my ticking ended up being VICS related. The ticking must have been a loose butterfly moving around, the engine let go in fine fashion:
1 - Started misfiring, replaced plugs and leads and all was good.
2 - A few weeks later a spark plug blew out of the head, thread repaired and all was good.
3 - Driving around a couple of weeks later and the oil light comes on, the weather had been cold so I assumed with was condesation and not smoke coming from the exhaust - I was wrong. Over the next 9 days until the new engine was installed I added 7.5 litres of fresh oil and it came out black and stinking of fuel.

I've pulled down the intake manifold from the bad engine this weekend to find all the butterflies floating around (1 in 2 pieces) and 3 screws out (1 of which I couldn't find).

I'll update with some pics tomorrow...

OK, update with pics!

Top half of IM (still attached to engine), if you look closely you can see the screws that are still on the butterfly rail:

Bottom half of IM, if you look closely you can see the butterflies sitting in there:

Butterflies and screws recovered from the bottom half of the IM:

As you can see from the butterfly shot, there was stacks of oil in the IM. The engine is worth $250 to me if I can get it back to the wreckers, so I'm not inclined to pull it down any further at the moment...
