throttle question

can anyone tell me why there seems to be a little bit of engine braking (i.e. the car slows down 1 - 2 mph) when i let go of the throttle in 1st and 2nd???? i don't really notice this happening in 3rd, 4th or 5th.

what can i upgrade to eliminate this from happening? is this a common problem and should i take my car into the dealer to have it looked at?

ATX I assume? A little bit of engine braking is a good thing, I'd assume that it was done on purpose.

sorry.... what's ATX?

my honda never did this so i don't know if it's intentional.. i can't see why this is good because the car jerks a little when i let off the throttle. it's definitely not a smooth ride like my old honda

I get it as well. Sometimes I'll get it if I'm in 4th and just ease off the throttle a bit too fast....I get a slight "jerking", but nothing too bad. Rev's don't drop substantially, but I can feel it asking for more gas.

ATX = acronymn for automatic transmission

Actually if you want to get technical it's an acronymn for Automatic TransaXle. :D

Umm not a flame or anything, but isn't this what a manual tranny is supposed to do? If you don't want to feel the engine braking, you can just push the clutch in and pull it out of gear, then it will "ride smooth" without any engine braking.

the point is i'm not sure if this is what the tranny is supposed to do.... it seems like the car jerks back a little when i let go of the throttle... not in a smooth way either. i just wanna know if this is normal and whether or not anyone has done anything to improve this......
