throttle body mod-problem

so i did the throttle body optimizing mod. http://sdbhost.com/cms/docs/TB6optimize.html

Then when i put it all back together and started the car things got weird. First it was idling at high rpm's like 1500 or so. then if i give it gas the rpm's go up and don't really come back down. so i thought maybe the throttle plate wasn't lined up and couldn't move freely/close but it looked good and i tweaked it just to see and still same issue. any ideas or did i ruin something?

I've done this on my old 2.5 Duratec V6 and it sounds like there's air getting past the plate that the ECU isn't expecting. That's why the car's idling high to keep it from stalling.

You can let the car idle for a few minutes and see if it's little enough air that the ECU will eventually compensate for.

Otherwise, you may have messed up somewhere (likely in the knife-edging where you took off more than you should have).

The alternative you have besides getting a new TB plate is to get some hi-temp gasket maker and put a bead around the area that looks like it has air getting past the plate - use your finger and be sure to put it on the correct side (ie. don't open INTO the gasket bead). You don't need much, just enough to block the excess air getting through.

Once the gasket drys up cut around it with an exacto knife so the plate can open.

BTW, the above is from experience.

well i got it all fixed, the issue was with too much air. at some point i guess i slightly bent the plate so i bent it back and was just fine.

i dont feel any gains, doubt anyone will but reports have shown it on a dyno.

That half of the rod does impede airflow and I know my previous 330i had the rod only on 1 side from the factory. It's more of a throttle response improver than anything else.

it seems that the only time that this would make a diffrence is when the rod is actually in the way at WOT or close too (air turbulance). so I would assume maby at high high rpms at WOT it would make a slight diff, soooo I guess if your at WOT alot this would make it worth this, if not I would suggest maby killing time some other way???
