Throttle body coolant bypass

I was installing a rear motor mount today, having already done the coolant bypass mod. I was using a fitting like teh one in the first post. The coolant lines for it always seemed to be in my way, and I got tired of it. It turns out you can just remove one line and the other line is long enough to reach where the first one went. So instead of using a brass fitting another option is to just remove one of the lines, and reroute the other to its spot.

haha, A guy at work mentioned this after I had already done mine, and I was like "why the hell didnt i think of that??" So good find Peeps.

Just letting you guys know that the whole TB coolant bypass is a bunch of junk....I'm not sure about the protege's TB but in the DSM if you do this you will severly effect the idle due to a wax pellet that gets melted to help control air flow to the IAC servo. Also the guys on the mirage board have done several several test with IR guns as to the temp of the TB with and without the coolant bypassed and there is absolutly no difference in TB temp or Inlet air temps. I would just leave it be. Your engine bay gets much hotter than the coolant temp and that aluminum TB just soaks up all that heat its like throwing it in an oven. Just thought I would share that with you guys...just some knowledge we have learned in the DSM world on to here.

any gains from the TB spacer?

To be honest, I really cant tell. I havent been able to dyno in a while, but Im not sure it would show up on a dyno anyway. Also, it hasnt really gotten hot outside since I did this mod, so I may see more of a gain in the summer time. Since it didnt cost that much, and its not too hard to do, I would say its a good mod. Just dont expect too much from it, and you wont be disappointed. :)

Coupled with the IM spacer, and maybe removing some of the rubber around the hood to let the engine breathe better, you might see a noticeable diff. I will probably try that soon, and let everyone know the results.
